Having left my home and native land some 30 years ago to go and live west of the Rockies I was thrilled to be introduced to this series for a birthday present.
The cars, and certainly the gadgets, may be different now, but the characters, the ups and downs of everyday life and all the absurdities are no different. When I was young, we were the Welsh and they - the English - were them. Related, we knew we had to tolerate one another, but at times it was a challenging truce (perhaps like the relationships in the series?)! Now looking at England and Wales from the outside many years later, the two have far more in common than differences. Only recently watched both series - Alison Steadman is an excellent actress but feel she bas been cast in something that is far beneth her.
I have to admit Ruth Jones as Nessa and Rob Byron as Bryn are both excellent as boring and as simple as Bryn is some of the lines were so funny the one about going on myspace and boosting about 5 friends I thought was quite funny The main 2 characters Gavin (who has also appeared in Catherine Tate show) is very wooden and Stacey who plays Gavin's g'friend/fiance/wife - must be the woman in men's nightmares - so clingy and the high pitched welsh accent made me just want to cringe All in all i feel that aside from the main 2 characters the show could be really good >>More Details |

Watching this is a memorable experience.
I really can't see why no1 watched it but I am infintely thankful that it is out on dvd and i can introduce all my friends to it (who all love it now). Maybe it was too dark and surreal for BBC audiences who prefer the far more mundane and overrated 'Gavin and Stacey'. Obviously a joke about trying to sell a talking baby didn't gel with modern audiences. Idiots. I suspect this will be an undiscovered gem for future generations looking back at Matthew Hornes career. Though I expect he will not acqknowledge it. It is crying out for another series. >>More Details |

Why isn't catchphrase comedy dead yet? It's simple comedy for simple people. Simple comedians who aren't creative enough to make an intelligent sitcom like Annually Retentive or Peep Show keep churning them out in the hope that one of them will become Little Britain. Don't buy this.

The Catherine Tate show is an original, very funny, non-repetetive show from the geniusses at the BBC. The characters in this show are likeable and aren't irritating. You could watch this all day and not get bored or frustrated. I hope this series goes on forever, as it will never get monotonous.
