Today the world of cinema revolves around Hollywood and America in general providing the oomph to film, much as it does to the world, and it is, as ever really, down to the more-often-than-not capable hands of the European flick to provide a genuine feel, a true emotion that doesn't feel tacked on and if anything, is more real and touching in the purity that often comes with European cinema, than in the actual words that come from the actors mouths.
If I can give Crash anything it's that it genuinely tries. It's an American film that literally tries to leave the ballpark of general mainstream American cinema. Unfortunately it forgets that another of America's flaws when it comes to cinema is over-earnestness and a distinct lack ... Read More:

This is a very funny film with a number of excellent set pieces, such as the scenes with the dog and the police interrogation scene. It is not a film for the prudish, but the gross moments are very few, though well known.
It also features the beautiful Cameron Diaz and that is another majopr attraction of this film.
But there is also sympathy for the main character, her would be lover, a decent chap, and his difficulties before reaching his goal.
Matt Dillon as the sleazy PI is also on fine form.

This movie was incredibly entertaining. The cast, which included Matt Dillon, Lindsay Lohan, and Michael Keaton (not bad!), were all in top form here; nobody dropped it down a level just because they were working on a Disney movie about a spunky Volkswagon. The plot was interesting, and not overdone, as many family flicks can be. There was plenty of real conflict and real emotion to drive the story. The soundtrack was a lot of fun too. Best of all, they didn't fill the movie with a bunch of cartoonish effects on Herbie's part...they toned down his 'tricks' and made them sparse enough that it was actually cool when you saw them, and not cheesy.

I fell into the trap after buying this of thinking it gay propaganda thus ignoring the pleasure of watching a warm, fun film for nearly 18 months. Don't make the same mistake. The majority of films are meant to be entertainment first otherwise we wouldn't bother with them.
The behaviour of the class after Cameron's decalration at the Oscars to ther teacher (Kevin Kline) is fairly good and Kline's attempt to deny what he is classic in the body language. Bob Newhart as the headteacher is perfect hesitant and clearly somewhat homophobic boss. The highs and lows of the emotional turmoil mixed with some great comic moments works well. Tom Selleck as the reporter is a gem, especially when he forces a kiss on Kline and tells him he is ... Read More:

Much slated at the time of its release, You, Me & Dupree is actually very good indeed. The story is simple. Thirty-something slacker Dupree moves in with his recently married best friend and promptly causes all manner of bedlam, much to the annoyance of the newlyweds. Of course, the whole thing ends happily and - it must be said - predictably, but what carries the film along is an utterly charming performance by the star of the show - Owen Wilson. In probably his finest screen outing, the mop-topped maestro wins one over with an innocent charm not seen on screen since Will Ferrell's delightful star turn in "Elf". It is a film to make the even the hardest cynic dust himself down and start believing again.

I have heard of this film for quite a while now but have only just got round to watching it. I have to say it is a lot better than expected. The acting is good, good story and the plot has more twists than a pizzeria pepper pot!!! Probably more well know for the scenes where Denise Richards and Neve Campbell kiss and the sex scene, but the rest of the film is much better than most thrillers with a twist, featuring a strong cast including Kevin Bacon. However you do need your brain in gear towards the end of the film to keep up with all the plot twists.........while the credits roll a few scenes are show as if to try and untangle some of the plotlines. Overall a great sexy thriller with a great ending no one could see coming....but you just feel some earlier ... Read More:

No need to go into the plot, which is covered by other reviewers. No need to point out the superlative performances by Matt Dillon as the hero-worshipping Rusty James (always called RustyJames, never by his first name) and Mickey Rourke as the enigmatic Motorcycle Boy. Dillon's bruised beauty is hypnotic, and comparisons with James Dean, and Brando in The Wild One The Wild One [1954] are inevitable. Rourke is equally haunting because he is so quiet, so still, so deliberate. Career bests for both of them.
What irritates me about the film is the way the self-consciously arty Direction by Coppola gets in the way of telling the story. Endless shots of darkening skies, deep-focus compositions which draw attention to their own beauty and away from the characters. ... Read More:

A very good movie. When I first went to see it, I have to admit I didnt expect much just because the title seemed so bland. However as the story played out you can see how true to life the comments and reactions were. All the scenes were great but the memorable comment for me was the politician who was robbed by two black guys but doesnt want to lose the black vote so wants a photo of him pinning a medal on a black person to go out to show him as anti racist. Then when he suggests someone he is informed that the person is infact Iraqi. "Well he looks black!" is just hilarious. When told the Iraqis name is "Saddam" his reply was hilarious
