DVD : L.A. Confidential [1997]

L.A. Confidential [1997]

starring: Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, James Cromwell
directed by: Curtis Hanson
June 01, 2006

Curtis Hanson has managed to direct a film which captures the late 1940's in both style and spirit. Often films depicting the glamourous side of this era immerse themselves too much in the styles and fashions of the time, rendering the actual characters superfluous to the movie. Not here though - the characters drive the film, blending in perfectly with the directing style swaying effortlessly to capture the gritty and the classic-Hollywoodesque, the guy has done his homework.

Risks were taken by casting relatively unknown non-Americans in the two major roles, a rare thing by a Hollywood studio. It's hard to imagine anyone else but Russell Crowe as the fiery `Bud' and at times Guy Pierce seems a bit awkward as `Exley' - but this ... Read More:

DVD : The Hand That Rocks The Cradle [1992]

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle [1992]

starring: Annabella Sciorra, Rebecca De Mornay, Matt McCoy, Ernie Hudson, Julianne Moore
directed by: Curtis Hanson
June 15, 2006

this is one of the best horror films i have seen for ages. Rebecca De Mornay's character is manipulative and evil as she takes over the happy, seemingly perfect family as the nanny. The acting is brilliant, the plot has me jumping at many places and there are only 3 bloody moments in the whole film!suspense is the way forward!

DVD : National Security [2003]

National Security [2003]

starring: Martin Lawrence, Steve Zahn, Colm Feore, Bill Duke, Eric Roberts
directed by: Dennis Dugan
July 04, 2005

Well, "National Security" has many problems, but it is still none-the-less very funny. Despite what the movie reviewers think this movie has laughs, action, and great acting. This movie is always entertaining, even if there are some irritating flaws. For example, one scene in the movie showed Zahn being on trial for beating a black man, and most of the trial was black. Even though it was presented in a funny way, it was still annoying. In a case involving race between white and African-American people, the jury would be half white and half African-American. When this movie was made, the director probably knew this, he just thought it would be funny anyway, which it was, but imagine this type of thing happening through the entire movie. Having said that, ... Read More:

Beethoven the St. Bernard still lives with Richard Newton, brother of George Newton, and his family. Meanwhile, not too far away at the Sedgewick family mansion, lived their St. Bernard who was the complete opposite of Beethoven. His name was Michelangelo. He was obedient, well-behaved and could even use the toilet! The Sedgewick family were always busy. Reginald was struggling with a hand-held modem while Martha handled constant social engagements.
