Having seen the original series from the 1970's i can say that the BBC have made a huge mistake with this!A wasted opputunity to revisit a great idea written by one of Britains best SF writers Terry Nation.It would seem that the producers couldnt wait to dump all the ideas of how a world where 90% of the population are now dead would feel and look like!It just looked like a quiet sunday afternoon and it seemed very convineient that everybody met up on a streach of motorway all at the same time!!The original stories have all been watered down to the point of sillyness! The second season of Hotel Babylon is as good as the first one. Great acting and a spescial twist to the filming makes this show stand out from the crowd. The episodes in this is even more action paced than the first series, but still very entertaining and convincing. This movie has a relevant message. It is a great story with a significant conclusion and well worth watching. It covers many issues but the most significant are the intrusion into individuals' privacy and the abuse of the data of them, and a sub-theme of the power of an agency that can cut off an individual's access to the `network', e.g. ATM, etc. It makes a compelling argument against the concept of all embracing ID cards and the underlying linking of databases. This is a really significant movie with a thoughtful and thought inducing ending. However, the story and its message is one thing; the way the film was produced is another. After having watched most of the BBC's period dramas, I still think that 'Tom Jones' is the best of them all. The original novel is difficult to dramatise but the writers here did a fantastic job. Henry Fielding is an intrusive narrator in the book and I found the decision to include him as a featured character in the dramatisation to be quite convincing. The acting is superb throughout. With the possible exception of Samantha Morton as Sophia Western, who comes across as rather bland, the cast is a joy to watch. Some of the supporting characters could not be better cast, just take a look at Brian Blessed who makes a perfect Squire Western (rotten teeth, swearing and all). Once again the HUSTLE crew have not failed to please. They have presented us with another six episodes of this great programme. I bought this because I liked series one and I have not been disappointed. Watch out for episode six - it involves the crown jewels! I was engrossed by (and a little bit grossed out by) BODIES, both Series 1 and 2. I watched episodes 1 - 5 of Series 2 all in one night! No hospitals for me, ever, thank you. My only gripe with the whole show was with the unsatisfying and underwritten Finale. In my opinion, they could have ended with episode 10 and I would have been happy. The writers made wild changes to characters' attitudes, demeanors, sleeping partners, motivations, etc... with little or no supporting storyline. The writers relied too much on manufactured coincidence and not enough on real-life story building. It is almost as if they tried to cram a whole series worth of storyline into an hour and a half.
