This 1970's Television drama was incredibly popular when it first emerged. It tells the story of an African slave, Kunta Kinte, who is kidnapped in his homeland and ferried across the Atlantic Ocean in a filthy slave ship, along with hundreds of other slaves.
Not only does it tell the story of Kunta, but it moves on from there and tells the story of Kunta's children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, all of which is based on the facts in the book version of Roots, written by Alex Haley. Haley traced his family tree back and wrote his family history; a history which is steeped in great historical, social and political importance, and this DVD version also engages viewers on a personal level.
As above. I would be delighted to purchase the Roots box set (region 2 for UK), but I am very disappointed to hear about the cover errors. - I personally would not mind - as one reader states in similar words that it is the discs that matter most. However, I would be purchasing for my parents who are very elderly and easily confused by these types of errors. - It would ruin the enjoyment of the gift for them.
Can customer service please add an update here regarding if these errors have been resolved??
This movie was superb. I wish it was available in PAL (not just US/Canada's NTSC format). I was both inspired not only with it's hysterical, insightful humour, but with it's global appeal. It brings out themes that EVERYBODY can relate to, not only the diverse and often lovable flaws in families, but personal problems and insightfully familiar life themes. The movie has great wit and side splitting humour. It's such fun to watch and this man is a star!
He really should be more widely recognised world-wide, a fantastic film that will leave you feeling inspired and wanting to watch more of this wonderful character.
This was just the type of film I love to watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon with my feet up, a cup of hot chocolate, and packet of gypsy creams.
I enjoyed every bit of this film - the quilters' stories of their past loves and heartaches as they work on the quilt; student Finn's uncertainty about her own love life and the decision she finally made; and not least the glimpses of quilts in some background scenes. But what sacrilege to trail the beautiful wedding quilt in the dirt!
I will enjoy watching this film again and again.

Absolutely, brilliant and funny. Packed with life many tales and oh how true they are. Truly a blessing, I recommend Tyler's DVD to all my family and friends. If ever I am able to attend one of his screenings, come hell or high waters I will be there. Keep up the good work and God's richest blessing and favour be upon you.

This original romantic comedy set in Los Angeles, starring Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur is outstanding to say the least. In the film Janet Jackson gets back to basics in order to play the role of Justice amazingly well. The film is visually good and the storline is not bad either. This is a refreshing break to all the gang violent films of the same era such as boyz in the hood and menace to society, as it looks takes a look at Los Angeles with a differing viewpoint. The film is intellegent and inspiring in so many ways.
I enjoyed this film from start to finish, as it is well written, has a great storyline and is outstanding in so many ways. It is a must for any DVD collection.
