I remember seeing a few episodes of the TV series when I was a kid but had no idea what to expect from this movie.
As it turns out this is a surprisingly well written movie with an great and tight direction which makes the movie rather than the subject matter characters which seem to be the reason for the action scenes rather than the story.
It's hard to talk about the story without giving it all away because the story is pretty paper-thin. But the movie is a pretty good action sci-fi film that makes for 2 hours of decent veiwing.

This movie is not a bad movie. It has good performances, especially from Jack Nicholson, and a good story line. But this is one of the most over-rated movies I have ever seen. The direction is similar to that of a TV movie, very basic and plain, and is what one would expect of any run-of-the-mill director for a major film.
