DVD : Blazing Saddles (30th anniversary edition) [1974]

Blazing Saddles (30th anniversary edition) [1974]

starring: Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Slim Pickens, Madeline Kahn, Mel Brooks
directed by: Mel Brooks
July 19, 2004

my boyfriend had gone on for ages about how good this film was so when i went away for a week i stole it out his dvd case to watch. Mel Brooks has a particular style which is so recognisable that you don't even have to check who the director of the film is. The one highlight of this film for me is Gene Wilder whom I think is fabulous. To be honest the three stars predominately go to him rather than the actual film, which is humorous in its own way, although sadly there is something lacking. I felt the film would have more of a kick of constant and intelligent humour rahter than lukewarm gags here and there. However its a good enough film, so worth a watch.

I found myself absolutely in stitches throughout this series. The series revolves around two events: Larry and Cheryl's vow renewals (and the impending 'special' anniversary gift), and Larry's upcoming stint on broadway, appearing in Mel Brooks' new Producers musical. Some shortcomings still seem over-rehearsed, but, overall, this sereis feels so much more natural than 1-3, and thus comes accross as terribly engrossing. See this series!

Definitely buy this movie. Excellent plot, sattire, Mel Brooks at his best.

This is film you can sit down and guarantee yourself you will enjoy every minute and watch again and again.

A must for any comedy collection, all the actors play an excellent part and I would say its even better than Prince of Thieves!

The later Muppet movies are better.
The film records Kermits rise to fame from swamp frog, to international superstar.
There are a host of cameos from movie stars of the late 70's early 80's, some of whom you will know, or not, depending on your generation.
The movie is watchable, entertaining and ticks the boxes in the family entertainment category.

A parody of Star Wars, and Aliens, and some other films of the type (space science fiction) is of course welcome because we like taking things un-seriously, non-seriously, serious-ness-less-ly. So it is funny and that is not a surprise. Mel Brooks knows how to make things both funny and silly so that we can gargle with giggles and barf with laughter. But the film has the main defect all Mel Brooks's films have. The humor is essentially punctual, so we have one joke after another, one smile after another, one pleasant moment after another, but there is no structural derision of the models. The final birth of an alien is funny both because of the situation in which it happens and it surprises us then, and because the alien is turned into some kind of long-tailed ... Read More:

A Good Man Is Hard to Find [2008] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Darius McCrary, Joe Torry, Hill Harper, Lance E. Nichols, Mel Jackson
directed by: Leslie Small

I love this movie. I am a complete fan of Darrin Henson and Golden Brooks, and this film did not disapoint. Apparently its based on a musical stage play by the same name. Has some other famous people in this movie also, such as Deborah Cox who does some excellent singing, Hill Harper and Yolanda Adams.

The story is based on three women, who struggle with their relationships. Brooks and Henson are the main characters, who are battling to keep their once loving relationship and marriage together. Henson seeks solace in the church and his wife(Brooks)throws herself into her new caeer, since she feels her husband constantly puts the church before her and their family. Trying to hold it together is not easy, especially as their teenage son has different ... Read More:

I had totally forgotten about this film until I saw a clip on TV, so time to check it out again. I have to say, although I had not seen it for about 15 years, I forgot how timeless and funny this is. A parody on famous movies and times in history, with some suprisingly good effects for the time. For me, Mel Brooks can be quite hit and miss, but this film was a definate hit. Who else could do a musical number about the Spanish inquisition?
