Exellent conversion to Blu-ray. A bit grainy in parts but gives this classic film a new lease of life. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition) [Blu-ray] [1977]

Special effects should be convincing, even when this was made, but relying on an upside down turned car and mashed tatties and dodgy miniatures spoils the story. As if aliens are going to travel all this way after kidnapping pilots and sailors just to have a jam session on top of a mountain with a hippy scientist and his organ. Like Jean Michel Jarre and ET having a duet. Its silly. Aliens also are supposed to be green and not like the ones here. Aliens are hardly going to visit us if this is what we think of them. Unless they are the For Mash Get Smash aliens which is where the mashed potato could actually mean something.

I bought this DVD on the strength of previous reviews. It is humourless, ponderous and without wit. Drag queens who never get out of drag are not funny; neither is the plot.

As a child i remember watching this film all the time, it was one of my favourites. So when i saw it was on TV a few weeks ago, i decided to watch it. To my surprise i sat through the whole film and absolutely loved it! So i straight away came on Amazon and bought it.
It is a classic for all the family and everyone will love it no matter what there age. it is hilarious, moving and Bigfoot still looks fantastic.
I usually like to buy the more action packed violent movie, but this was truly irresistable.

Mighty good drama depicting corruption in the justice department intending, on the surface, to solve a crime, but, beneath the waters, to further political careers. Sally Field played the self centered, self deluded reporter perfectly against Newman's confused, angry victim.
The plot takes some unexpected turns but develops logically and clearly with just enough suspense to keep viewers entranced. When concluded you realize how all elements of the plot are kept within reasonable bounds and how refreshing that is. Here's a film that relies on character development and an intriguing plot with an important message. No special effects, gore and bedroom scenes needed to make this a great movie.

Tony's sluttymistress is channel-surfing and lands on The Prince of Tides. Tony watches with a child's glee, channeling his own muddled attraction for Dr Melfi through the movie, and ends up sending her a bouquet of flowers with a note signed "Your Prince of Tides."
The gesture is embarrassingly corny, but it's vintage Tony S. He may head New Jersey's most powerful crime family, but he's a sap.
Brilliant.

Loved it! Really cheered me up and made me laugh out loud many times. I loved the two leads. The comic timing is spot on. Look forward to sharing it with others and having another viewing. Will really lift your spirits if you feel a bit down!

I'm slowly making my way through Hal Ashby's filmography, shaking my head and wondering what could have been if this genius had lived a little longer. This film is based on the protest singer Woody Guthrie's autobiography. It shows his life in middle America before he was known, his struggle to reach California, his early musical career, his support of the workers and the unions (a commie bastard in many people's eyes.) Some scenes of migrant workers arriving in California, and the treatment they received, are very reminiscent of the arrival of jews at concentration camps. Scenes of Woody playing music with his friends, of young women strumming their guitars in the migrant worker camps, catch the viewer by surprise with their simple beauty. Ashby told stories that he cared ... Read More:

A little jewel of a film! This movie was released with not much fanfare in 1983, but has developed a loyal following in the U.S. due to it's repeated airing on cable television. Such is it's cult following, that American cable network TBS regularly hosts a "Christmas Story Marathon" during which the film is shown for 24 hours straight, from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day! I moved to Ireland from America 6 years ago, and have searched in vain for this film to appear on the Christmas schedule of RTE, BBC, Sky or any of the other 500 channels on my system. Sadly "A Christmas Story" is virtually unheard of on this side of the Atlantic, and I soon realised that I would probably never see it again, unless I bought it myself.
