I enjoyed the extra bits and they were quite gently woven into the new cut. They enhanced the film and deepened the characters and setting a bit. The picture is great - except for a few jarring moments where it's now quite obvious that the editor/director zoomed in on the negative for some artificial close-ups that look distractingly fuzzy on Blu-ray. They don't spoil the overall experience though. The colour scheme is lush and very atmospheric. It's also nice to see Keifer Sutherland in HD and hear Jennifer Connelly's original singing.

To be honest, I found this film rather dull. The characters are completely one-dimensional and the story is pretty uninteresting and heavily reminiscent of Night of the Living Dead, Assault on Precinct 13, Dawn of the Dead, etc.. In fact, I'm only giving it 3 points because I love vampires and vampire movies so much. The problem with disposable characters is that you just don't care whether or not they live or die, thus there's no tension when they go an do something really moronic that puts them in imminent danger (there's a fair bit of that in this film). I didn't like the ending much: it seemed a bit of a cop-out, but I won't spoil it for you.

I like to end a review on a positive note if possible, and this film has some really ... Read More:

This a great show, which is why it gets 3 stars. It loses two because this set is a pale imitation of the R1 version.

And that picture looks like the R1 version...but believe me the actual thing doesn't look anything like as good. It's just a big shoe box with all the old box sets stuffed inside.

As someone else mentioned, the R1 version is a thing of beauty. Much smaller and compact, with raised "gold" embossing. Magnetically sealed, felt-lined, secret compartment, colour hard-back booklet.

This show deserves a great complete season set, the R1 set is most definitely that, the R2 one is NOT! If you don't care about packaging and it doesn't bother you that they've gone to great effort in the US and absolutely zilch effort ... Read More:

Isolated in the most northern town of Alaska, the towns folk are preparing for the month ahead. Their position on the earth means that every year it is darkness for thirty days. A stranger has just come ashore and makes his way towards the town...
The film is wonderfully set up with good characters on a convenient white canvas of snow. There is one particularly memorable tracking shot in the midst of the action that is very impressive indeed. Once the action begins it does not let up. Eerie, scary and bloody - I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys horror or simply likes a bit of blood and a few scares. I give it 4/5 because the film maker in my head would have done it slightly differently.

I agree with others that this series failed to live up to the previous 2 seasons, but it is still worth a look. While I found the Sark/Lauren relationship a little hard to believe, the ongoing Sloane saga leaves you wondering just what exactly the man is up to.
My biggest disappointment I confess is patriotic, while I'm unaware of how authentic the details are in relation to other countries, the Episode pertaining to Belfast was rather poorly researched, showing footage of Dublin rather than Belfast, and a pub scene that was more akin to the 1940s that the 1990s! I'll not even mention the accents!
I bought the box set in the end due to poor coverage on British TV and it was definitely worth every penny. This show will definitely remain a firm favourite for many ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this film, I've seen hundreds of films and love thrillers, but I can honestly say that I've never seen a film quite like this before.

I guess this is a thriller that's also a psychological thriller with some really good twists and turns.

I do wonder sometimes if Clive Owen is truly a lead actor or not, but here he proves that he is in what could well be his best performances that I've seen of his to date, Jennifer Aniston is also in fine form in a role completely away from any other role I've seen her in, then there's the performance of Vincent Cassel who's superb as the villain, for me he's the best screen villain that I've seen for sometime.

It's difficult to say anything else about the film as it could give the game away, ... Read More:

I confess to be one of the few who watched and loved this film on its cinematic release, but the one snag I found was the opening voice-over, which gave away the 'twist' and it struck me as a probable studio panic. Evidently my suspicions were correct, and the film should benefit (for new viewers) from its removal. However, director Alex Proyas has taken the liberty of making a number of changes to the film, mostly in the form restored footage to scenes. Some nice touches (finger prints, slightly more flesh on characters) add something, but some other additions merely slacken the pace, and worse, Proyas has (perhaps as a consequence of not fitting the scene, or maybe because he felt it too intrusive) lessened the role of Trevor Jones's brooding/vicious/achingly beautiful score. The result ... Read More:

DVD : Scarlett [1994] [Dutch Import]

Scarlett [1994] [Dutch Import]

starring: Joanne Whalley, Timothy Dalton, Barbara Barrie, Stephen Collins, Annabeth Gish
directed by: John Erman

It was many years ago now that i watched Scarlett after reading the book. Of course the books are always better than the films but never the less its a film that follows a great epic and must be seen to Finnish the story of Scarlett and Rhett. I personally liked the book better as it was more in detail but the film covered the plot well. If you have seen gone with the wind then this film is a must for fans as it sees Scarlett and Rhett reunited once more. Scarlett is not made with the same outstanding performances and looks as though it cost a lot less than Gone with the wind. I enjoyed the film but not with the same emotional feelings as the first but still a must to see, to make closure to this great saga.

I bought this DVD despite the usual negative reviews on Amazon and was very glad I did. I watched it last night and was well impressed by this forerunner to the Matrix movies. This strange film is fast-paced and gripping - sci-fi movie-making at its best.
If you enjoy offbeat movies with lashings of sc-fi sauce and a dash of toungue-in-cheek detective melodrama then buy this classic movie and ignore the calls of 'boring' from the Hollywood fan club.

During my forty odd ( very odd) years on this increasingly water logged planet we call earth i haven't travelled as much as i would have liked. Mainly because I'm too lazy and frugal but watching films like Paradise Lost means I'm also unlikely to travel for fear that some hideous fate will befall me. With Slovakia off the menu after the torture porn of Quentin Tarantino Presents : Hostel [2005] [2006] I could be forgiven for being in mortal fear of visiting Brazil lest i am abducted for sinister reasons.
The premise for Paradise Lost is efficiently simple. American Alex( Josh Duhamel) his sister Bea(Olivia Wilde) and her flighty pal Amy (Beau Garrett) are on a bus with two would be English lothario,s Fin( Desmond Askew) and Liam (Max Brown) , when the bus driver speeding along the ... Read More:
