Amazon kept recommending this DVD to me coz I bought a couple of cheech & chong. The only similarity was the topic; there was no comparison in the quality of the comedy. There wasn't an original idea in the whole film just weakly made pale imitations of much better films such as Nice Dreams and Animal House. On its own merits its ok and worth a watch if really you like stoner comedy, but don't expect a classic.

This film is absolutely funny. "Black" Comedies are the best ones. I strognly recommend to watch this DVD. Although, it's finished very unusualy, it doesn't matter, it'll keep you laghing till the end.

DVD : Belly [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

Belly [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Nas, DMX, Taral Hicks, Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins, Method Man
directed by: Hype Williams
January 20, 2004

OK, if you're intereseted in New York rap. Nas, DMX and a insane appearance by Method Man as an off-his head Ghetto assasin. Don't expect great cinema though. Dircted by the same Hype Williams who did those cheesy shiny-suit videos in the mid-nineties, the film itself is a bit of a mess, with nothing to say that Boyz'n'the Hood didn't say almost a decade earlier. While that film meant something, Belly is nothing but a slice of gun porn, played out to a Hip Hop soundtrack...I think Hype Williams needs to stick to his music videos.

DVD : One Eight Seven [1997]

One Eight Seven [1997]

starring: Samuel L. Jackson, John Heard, Kelly Rowan, Clifton Collins Jr., Tony Plana
directed by: Kevin Reynolds

On the one hand, this movie gained a lot by the sheer presence of Samuel.L.Jackson but, on the other hand, the community of the students was represented in a perfect way. So to speak, full out of life.

The gap between the two sides and the life of the teachers was displayed in an uncommitted way. No questions left. Except opening the whole discussion about aggression in schools and how to educate a problematic generation. The show of brutality was unnecessary. We have seen the scenes before in action and other movies. Or was it, to emphasize the conflict?
