To be honest I wasn't expecting too much from this film and I wasn't disappointed. For me Vince Vaughan played an almost pedestrian role - I much preferred the characters and acting of Kevin Spacey and Paul Giamatti.
For me the best parts of the film was the 'Siblings Anonymous' scene which is where lesser known siblings describe the angst of having a more famous brother - I won't spoil it for you! The other best bit was at the end where various children are shown opening their presents - no words, just Sinead O'Connors 'Silent Night' playing.
I wouldn't watch this film with under 10s. Occasional parts of the film don't sit well with what I consider family viewing but that maybe just ... Read More:

How can anyone find this not funny....? Classic comedy at its best for all the family. Maybe the reviewer who gave this one star - as they seem to slate nearly everything they review - buy something they may actually like! Try Lead Balloon...

I was half way through watching a clockwork orange when i couldnt help but think what is all the fuss about??. Yes it may be shocking but that is all it is. Some times people for some reason regard controversial films as masterpieces when in trueth they are average. A good performance from the lead but the storyline is patchy and doesnt flow well. The film realise on shocking rape scenes to make up for the awful storyline, maybe a sign of poor filmmaking but thats being way way to critical
The only reason i have given "A clockwork orange" 4 stars is because of Kubricks other work such as Full metal jacket and the shining and the fact he is no longer with us influenced my desicion. For this film alone i wouldnt go further than 2 stars just for sheer ... Read More:

Yes, it is a pity that the movie is not presented in its intended theatrical aspect ratio 1.85. But to make it clear it is not presented in "butchered 1.33 to fit conventional TV screens" or a "TV-friendly crop of the original wide-screen movie" either. The movie is presented in its original open matte format, which means it was shot in conventional 1.33 to fit TV screens. For theatrical release the picture was then cropped at the top and the bottom, a common practice since the Fifties. So the picture is nothing missing here as the other reviewers suggest. Instead, it shows more information at the top and the bottom than the theatrical release. Just for the record.

OK, we can all agree that there's no relevant plot, the personages are almost nonexistent, but WHAT a visual and audio impact!
IF you look at it as an astray piece of style, it embraces all of the, then future, 80's trends and fashions. from ONJ rollerskating outfit with the flirty miniskirt and leg warmers [so funny in the cartoon section of the movie] up to the 'ALL OVER THE WORLD' scene in a LA store with so many 'fab' fashion disasters. BAD hairdos, neon glowing clothes, dreadful makeup, and a corny pop fashion flavour that makes it all SO unforgetable and unforgivable... I give it 4 stars, due to the cool music [even if the sonny malone personage was the WORST casting ever] and MARVELLOUS screaming bad glam outfits throughout! ;)

This is a nice film, satisfying in so many ways, even if the sad conclusion is anything but, but that's the nature of romantic tragedy. This is Oliver Reed's finest film performance (apart from maybe Gladiator), and must be Ken Russell's best movie bar none. Good authentic adaption of DHL, a writer whose works often arouse strong emotions one way or another. In fact human emotion is often the main focus of all his works, rather than the more overt themes of class, or raw passion. This film has a lovely period feel to it, is very intimate in its portrayal of the relationships between people with different personalities and feelings, and it distills the mood or essence of DHL perfectly, including clear undertones of misogyny. If you're prepared for a slightly more detached and arty kind of romantic ... Read More:

One of my favourite films of all time.I hate when people say it's dated, what do you expect, it was made over forty years ago. It,s a classic sixties movie. The soundtrack is also awesome, took me years to find it on CD and the album stands alone as a great piece of jazz. Pete and Dud, the bizness!!!

Bought this film with 633 Sqn a few days a go. After watching both of them I now know why I always confused the two films. I watched 633 Sqn first followed by Mosquito Squadron and while both films are good in their own right, I have one major problem with this one. It is not only a virtual re-make with the plot being so very close in many places, but it also uses loads of film footage from 633 Sqn.
That aside I would recommend it to anyone who likes war films.

Hitchcock had a number of rules about who could be murdered and how which are illustrated best when he breaks them. The first was that he would never murder a character who the audience had been made sympathetic to. His biggest transgression of this rule was in his early film Sabotage where a character is killed when the audience would have expected him to suurvive until the last minute. Here there are two women killed, both of whom we are sympathetic to and the first of who we see raped and murdered in a rather brutal way. Many people cannot watch this movie because of this scene. That bring us to the second rule that the act of killing should have most of it's shock value in the suggestion of violence rather than graphic violence. Hitchcock broke this rule twice.
