Okay so you've got your CSI, NCIS and even Midsomer Murders. Now meet Dexter. Okay so its based on the novels by Jeff Lindsay, but this is orignal programming that is frighteningly addictive (and this is from somone who is sqeemish!). Even on missing the pilot episode and watching from episode 2 I still found myself drawn so far into this. At that time I still had'nt got much of a clue what was going on but still, it was erelvent! I was lucky enough to see Season 2 on FX before its realease on to terrestrial tv and it did not disapoint one bit. Im waiting in anticipation at the release of season 3 here in the UK. Untill them do yourself a favour, by this along with the equally good season 2 ... Read More:

When "Six Feet Under" first aired in 2001, people were adamant about the idea of a Family-Run Funeral home, of which is supposed to make good television drama and with its satirical dark humour and very real characters. It seemed like a lot to gauge for a show that would constantly display death. Then again, death is a touchy subject to everyone, where do we go, what of the soul and more importantly, how we deal with it, and do we ever deal with it.
Funnily enough the idea for this show is original, who ever had the idea first wins in that respect; they get to clarify an unlooked upbringing of a Family Business and way of life for those who `cater' the dearly departed.
Dexter is a blood spatter specialist working for the police. His skills help to find murderers and solve crimes.
Dexter is also a serial killer. He uses his crime solving skills to rid the world of those who deserve to die. Unfortunately for his guilty victims, Dexter enjoys his hobby.
I love the sound track, the acting, and the stories.
This is an off beat but brilliant series, which brings serial killing into mainstream entertainment. Enjoy

Now, I'm gonna be honest with you guys right now. I was initialy disappointed with this season of Dexter, as the first season of Dexter was loosely based on Jeff Lindsey's Book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, so I was initially thinking it was going to be similar to the second book. Its Not.
After the initial shock that this was, I kicked back and watched the DVD (I am reviewing the region 1 dvd). Basically the story is this. Seargeant Doakes is still suspicious of Dexter, and constantly tailing dexter. There is also other storylines which I am not going to mention due to not wanting to spoil the dvd for you.
Now there are plenty of Extras, but like with season 1, they will probably stiff us of these, so I will not mention them, but they are ... Read More:

As soon as i finished watching season 1, I ordered this region 1 dvd from amazon.
The first year bowled me over as a piece of great, original television unfolded before my eyes. I wasn't sure it could get any better, but it did.
Season 2 takes us on a more complete journey into the minds and lives of the characters. The show stays true to what made it so good, but adds greater depth and creativity; everyone seems to be on a mission to find themselves, or are at least trying to recapture who they think they are.
Dexter's life becomes much more complex as his web of ever increasing lies constantly threatens to come undone and wreck the lives of almost everyone. A special mention should go to all the suppoting cast, especially Jennifer Carpenter, ... Read More:

As a person normally totally disillusioned and turned off by television programes, "Six Feet Under" was something out of the ordinary that revived some hope within me that commercial television could actually produce outstanding programs of real value if it wanted to. Accolades must go to HBO for that, as they've been responsible for some other gems apart from "Six Feet Under". The Sopranos comes immediately to mind.
However, this review is of the final season of "Six Feet Under" when in the true spirit of the show all things came to an end. I remember watching "Six Feet Under" for the first time and it just captivated me with its sheer audacity, honesty and moments of quiet reflection. The program struck a resonance, potentially within us all, as to the frailty, imperfection, ... Read More:

This ranks with one of the most pointless, drawn out films I have ever watched. After a promising opening sequence one is left with the anticipation that something entertaining will develop. Don't wait! Switch it off 4 minutes in or find something more exciting to do - anything will qualify! This film was made with a great cast, but the script and direction falls into that unnerving category where the expert reviewers must have watched another film with the same title.

Season four of six feet under comes hurtling at you with a new found aggression and a deeper feel to it,season 3 got a little safe for me,this series brought back most of what made the first two series so worthwhile, this series brought back a dark and disturbing tone that felt very plausible.
The stories that affect the key characters lives all stamp and prod at the senses and give the series a much needed kick, again the pace is slow but more than moody, the story arcs are raised and there is comedy both dark and obvious, sadness that feels very real and a sense that everything that could go wrong will go wrong, this is a series that challenges and that is what made this show so worthwhile,i was glad that they found this angle again, otherwise the series was gonna die, irony, hey hey!

Season 3 of six feet under is a good series but isnt as good as the first two, where season one was very quirky and season 2 could be accused of being dark with comical undertones, season 3 is more raw and real and forces the viewer little in the way of watching what happens as it happens, depression rears a very ugly head here and draws the viewer in,painfully.
The first episode of season 3 is stunning and chilling, taking off from the cliffhanger found at the end of season two, brilliantly written and challenging to everyone involved, thereafter we get to see the characters develop without fairytale or comical loop, these are bleak, meaningful yet meaningless people all forced to co-exist and daggers are behind everyones back for the next victim, well this is a metaphor, stick with me hey.
This is still ... Read More:

The second series of six feet under continues the story of the fisher funeral home with it being at the core of the lives that live there and visit there, all roads lead to there basically, this series drops some of the surreal scenes that we all loved in season one and stays within the mindset of a reality that is dark, bleak and somewhat tortured.
Six feet under does not have any real twists or edge of the seat tactic, although this season ends with a cliffhanger, this series is slow, and deliberately so,patience is required as the lives of those involved is scraped to the bone,we learn alot more about the key characters here and then some.
The dark humour exists still but is less evident than on the first series for certain, this is a show that demands respect and gets it from myself,it will never appeal to ... Read More:
