Great film, awesome performance by the Joker and 2 face. However, there are 2 reasons why i only gave this film 4 stars.
1. Batmans voice is ridiculous. Its the worse put on gravely voice in film and really grinds on me, esp the last scene with the joker.
2. Why oh why is that goon Caine, Alfred the butler. Cockney butler for one of the worlds richest tycoons - unlikely. I prefered Michael Gough, a classy English accent.

Could the movie live up to the hype? Most definitely. Buy this film if only to see Heath Ledger's portrayal of Batman's arch-enemy the Joker. His performance is worth the cost of the blu-ray alone. I always though that Jack Nicholson's performance would set the standard, but Heath Ledger's Joker knocks that into a hat.
This is a continuance of the Dark Knight created originally by Bob Kane and later re-invented by Frank Miller. Batman ain't Mr NIce Guy and nor should he be. In fact Batman comes across as harder and possibly mentally unstable but then again to wear latex and a cape you have to be a bit mad.
If I found one fault in the film, it would be that it is too long. I would have rather this had been extended and ... Read More:

I remember the first Batman with Michael Keaton playing the part of Batman and Jack Nicholson playing the Joker and the hype surrounding it. At the time I thought it was a pretty good film. Then the sequels happened and various big name actors played the parts of both our hero and the villains. They films got worse each time they mad another.
After a few years off Christian Bale became Batman and he plays the part to perfection. This film is even better then Batman Begins (Or Batman 5) and Heath Ledger is amazing in the part of the Joker. It is sad that this is his last film and his greatest performance.
The plot is based upon the standard super hero film. The action and sets are fantastic. What sets it apart is Heath as the Joker. ... Read More:

I purchased (with some excitement) this version on DVD as it says on the cover it's a "restored" version and the running time was stated as 86 mins opposed to the previous DVD release of 82 mins.
I was convinced that it would be a "restored" version with the song "When Love is Gone" put back in... But sadly, it wasn't! Alas, it was just a re-package of the previous release.
I've decided to keep it anyway and not take it back for a refund as I don't have it on DVD, but I have just bought the VHS version from Amazon so I can watch it this Christmas in it's full "RESTORED" version!

Yes it is delightful in quality and so well told. But the film itself never says anything like "We shouldn't be here (in Africa)." like the fan and critic on the extras tells us. So this war adventure could have gone seriously wrong and then there hardly would be a fight-glorifying film. But beautifully made in the details. When two soldiers are sent up on a hill, then something else happens and after that in another scene you see in the distance that they are now halfway up. That creates a believable flow I enjoy in movies.
The film was shot in Super Technirama 70, that is 35mm horizontal (like our "old" 135 photography) with a squeeze for 70mm printing 1:2,2, so it has a larger negative and better quality and it SHOULD look better or at least as good as ... Read More:

There is nothing I can add to the reviews for each of the individual films which rate as classics in the war film genre. I'm of that generation that can remember it being a really big event especially at Christmas when the Great Escape was on the telly and like many people can remember it scene by scene but still feel its better than most modern films relying on computer generated effects. Myself an ex RAF man its always thrilling to see the aerial scenes of the Battle of Britain made ironically with the help of the then fascist Spanish air force who where still flying Heinkels, Dorniers and Meschershmits a left over from Franco's friendship with Hitler. A bridge too far made in 1977 came later but is true to Corneleus Ryans book being historically accurate in all the ... Read More:

In preparation for the Dark Knight, I had to re-watch this movie, and to be honest I forgot how good it was. These movies re-invent the Batman in a much more realistic and plausible way than the orginal 90's movies. The really changes the way you feel about the character and the setting, it changes from being a comic book adaptation in an over the top Gotham, unbelievable gadgets and unbelievable villians to something that with a little bit of imagination may actually be happening around us. This sets up the history of Batman, and how he turns into the Dark Knight, with believable explainations on his skills, gadgets, costumes, money and alike. This is a perfect start to what I hope turns out to be an excellent series of movies. Well directed, well acted with good (and ... Read More:

I was totally spellbound by the illusionist, brought out around about the same time as this film, so it was with slight anticipation that I watched this, expecting that it wouldn't match up to the other in the slightest. What a surprise, I was right. While I found the first film brilliant and cleverly crafted with a brilliant storyline this was just a poor, weak plotted version of something vaguely resembling a good magician's film. The ending was absurd and I was actually throwing cushions at the screen because it was such a messy plot!!Don't bother with this, watch the illusionist and see a genuinely good plot instead of a positively awful one.

This movie in my opinion is one of the best that was ever made. The movie enjoyed splendid location, superb actors and a great sountrack from John Barry. As to accuracy its not bad at all and should give you excellent entertainment value. The battle scenes in the film are superb and really well done and for a movie of this age has stood the test of time,I feel it was also good that Cy Enfieild tried to portray both sides of the story and thus made it more interesting to digest.Ive been to Rorkes Drift on a few occassions and its a great place to vist and get the feel of what really happened and take it all in,you also get a smashing cup of tea and a scone at the little restaurant.Back to the movie if you want to watch a brilliant epic movie that will keep you viewed to your TV then you need to get ...
