I am a teenage girl aged 13, the other night my younger brother put on Sky High while i was doing my homework. I looked up and thought 'oh, another of those pointless films he always watches' when actually after 5 minutes i was intrigued! It was funny, entertaining, and a good 'hero V villain' kind of movie. In reply to 'L.Streader', whats wrong with the baby gun?! The plot of the film is obviously not real, with them being superheroes and all, so why not have a fictional gun?
Overall, a great film, and although it was 'love' side of the plot was a bit obvious, I'd recommend this to anyone. =]

The Singing Detective is certainly one of the best things ever to be seen on TV. It certainly caused a stir in the UK at the time because of its explicit treatment of sexuality. The story certainly is multi layered and fascinating and the acting is superb down to really minor characters. Usually the success is attributed to Potters's writing. When you read the screenplay which was published by Faber & Faber you certainly read an interesting story (although somewhat influenced by DH Lawrence) but you are not as overwhelmed as you are when seeing it on screen. So from my point of view The Singing Detective is at least as much the product of Jon Amiel and the mesmerizing pictures he creates plus his direction of actors. I find it amazing that the ... Mighty Aphrodite is the film in which Woody Allen gets the balance right between writing a script that is serious literature and mixing the serious literature with a modern day low-brow bestseller. He uses the idea of the chorus from ancient greek literature as the voice of his conscience and makes a most unlikely series of events seem plausible and highly entertaining, and manages to make something that could have turned out as seeming very sordid, touching and memorable. He was helped in no small part by Mira Sorvino's brilliant (oscar winning) feat of acting in which she played the prostitute Linda as somebody who was like a cartoon character but who was still recognisable as a human being that the viewer would think could exist in real life. There are plenty ... Based on the novel by Henry James, `The Wings of the Dove' is a beautiful film both in terms of locations, story and acting.
Helena Bonham Carter plays Kate Croy, who after being taking on as a ward by her Aunt Maude, is forced to meet illicitly with her lower class lover Merton Densher (played by Linus Roache). When Kate discovers that her new friend Mille (played by Alison Elliot), a wealthy American heiress is terminally ill, she sets about enticing Merton to seduce Millie in order for Kate and Merton to be able to marry through the acquisition of her inheritance.
The cinematography of the film is simply stunning, especially the night scenes in Venice, the costumes too are beautifully made and in my opinion Helena Bonham Carter has never looked ... Read More:

FINAL DESTINATION is a very interesting horror film, a nice variation of the typical slashers. FINAL DESTINATION 2 is actually a LOT better than the original. I liked the characters better here, and it was more suspenseful. If you like innovative horror this film is highly recommended.
Alternatives:
I Know What You Did Last Summer [1997] The best in typical slasher films.
Final Destination [2000] The original
Final Destination 3 [2006] The second sequel
The Beyond - Uncut [2001] Like supernatural horror? This will do.

'Adapted Eye' is the best of the Vine novels, a modern Greek tragedy that explores the sheer hatred that is unleashed when two hitherto devoted sisters fall out over a child that both want. The excellent TV adaptation captures the range of emotion, helped by the casting of Sophie Ward as the glacial Eden (the name conveys her perfection) and Celia Imrie's homely but manipulating Vera. Acting as narrator, Faith (Bonham Carter) has an important role of her own, her life blighted by guilt and the suspicion that Vera's madness might be hereditary. In an early appearance, Honeysuckle Weekes plays the young Faith, morphing rather unconvincingly and suddenly into the darker Bonham Carter - a pity in an otherwise good production.
...and that's pretty much the best way to review this performance, because that's what it really is, not a DVD but a DVD of a performance, and they never really work as well on tape as seeing it live. The problem I had was that I was constantly comparing it to the (I think) excellent 70s film version (on which Tim Rice worked, lending it slightly more of a feeling of relevance than this version) and it comes up short in every department. JSC is about Judas, not Jesus. This performance misses that entirely, in my view, and Rik Mayall is just a joke. Which me may well have been meant to be, but isn't a patch on the Herod in the 70s version for either humour or pathos. Stage works on stage, screen works on screen, I really do wish that film makers would start realising ... Read More:

The title just came to me. I can't understand why this is getting so many 1 stars. I thought it was brilliant and just as good as the original. Sometimes people are set in their ways and not open to giving remakes a chance but definitely give this one a chance, its well worth it
