This is a bit of a Marmite movie (you'll love it or you'll hate it); reviews on Amazon and elsewhere on the web have been very mixed which won't help anyone making a purchasing choice. The film is sexy, funny, and sensitive without being pretentious. Personally I found this movie completely spellbinding and unexpected. It was nothing like I thought it was going to be (the box art does advertise a rude comedy and I almost expected a modern "Carry On" type movie). However rather than sitting down to watch the comic capers of a young freshly-dumped student who can freeze time to undress female shoppers, I was treated to a massively fulfilling piece of work in which the nudity is artistic and expressive, and the romantic comedy is a cut above any ... I missed most of this series first time round. I can't rememember what I was doing at the time but just hope it was good as this is one of the best bits of TV ever.
Each episode is a stand-alone story, although the main characters' lives are linked by the street and so they may appear again. Every story is a cracker, thoughtfully written and expertly brought to life by convincing actors. Timothy Spall is brilliant as always but he's by no means on his own.
Gritty, witty, powerful, sad, moving. Buy it now!

Without question,'A Night To Remember' is the finest film ever made about the Titanic disaster.I know that the overblown 'Titanic' won a record number of awards, but it pales in comparison to this fine movie.
We all know the story by now.Over 1500 lives lost and many lessons learned. This movie has an almost documentary feel to it and the fact that it was filmed in black and white somehow adds to the atmosphere. It is moving, filled with tension and features people that you actually care about.Directed with realism by Roy Ward Baker and very well acted this really is a first rate effort.
There are quite a few very interesting extras with this DVD so it is extremely highly recommended.Probably one of the finest British movies of the ... Read More:

this classic film, is a cult comedy of the seventies. very enjoyable to watch from start to finish. combined with an excellent seventies soundtrack with artists such as rose royce, makes it a worthwhile step back in time. although dated in its seventies style especially with serious afros, it still provides humour and entertainment that is dateless in this present day. thoroughly enjoyable and definately a classic item to have in my film collection !

During the 1970s and 1980s director Larry Cohen churned out some top notch B-Movie Horrors including IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE 2: IT LIVES AGAIN, IT'S ALIVE 3: ISLAND OF THE ALIVE, Q: THE WINGED SERPENT, THE AMBULANCE, GOD TOLD ME TO and Stephen King's A RETURN TO SALEM'S LOT. He has also proved to be a prolific script writer of horror and more recently the phenomenal PHONE BOOTH (dir. Joel Schumacher). But of all his writer/director efforts, it is THE STUFF that he will be remembered for in years to come ...
Starring Michael Moriarty (TROLL) this movie is the quintessential 1980s film for low budget horror fans. The 'Ed Wood' of the 1980s? Not if PHONE BOOTH is anything to go by. You see, THE STUFF is supposed to be tongue-in cheek and the effects ... Read More:

This is a well-crafted, very funny and expertly written film that succeeds in making me laugh on repeated viewings. Ackroyd and Matthau work so well together and, unlike so many comedies of this type, is not over the top. The delivery is just very subtle and the whole movie well-paced, with a clever and unpredictable ending. It's really a gentle but ever-so-slightly manic(?)satire on TV psychiatry. And just when you think it's all over, listen to the beautiful Michel Colombier end titles score, played by the Canadian Brass - two and a bit minutes of blissful music that should be regularly aired on Classic FM.

Privates on Parade is a movie which at times is very funny and very black, worth watching and for some worth having, but which also can't seem to decide which sacred cows it wants to gore or which messages it wants to deliver.
It's 1948 and the British are fighting a Communist insurrection in the Malayan jungles. For the British Army in Malaya, WWII has hardly stopped. Acting Captain Terri Dennis (Denis Quilley) heads up a ragtag group of inept soldiers whose job it is to improve morale by staging song and dance shows for the troops. Since there are few women available, most of the troupe doubles in full drag, including -- with great enthusiasm and queenly putdowns -- Dennis. The troupe is under the command of Major Giles Flack (John Cleese), a Bible quoting ... Read More:

William Shakespeare's Hamlet directed and starring Kevin Kline.
We have seen this play many times, sometimes abridged, and many adoptions by various artists and groups, such as Sir Laurence Oliver, Richard Burton, Dame Judith Anderson, Nicol Williamson, Richard Chamberlain, Derek Jacobi, Campbell Scott, Mel Gibson, even (icky poo) Ethan Hawke. Each brings a unique plus that makes it hard to say which is best. And threatened to be played by Shelley Long in "Outrageous Fortune"
That said Kevin Kline is top notch. One attribute is that this version seemingly uncut is spoken clear. Maybe because it is a stage version filmed close enough that they did not have to shout.
When Kevin builds up in the close-up you forget all the trivial things like Hamlet's ... Read More:
