Reading the reviews, this film have two type of opinions: very, very bad, very very good.
In my opionion is a very, very, very good film. If you search a historical rappresentation you make a mistake.
Movie and book are a perfect "personal" interpretation of Leonida's men sacrifice. Vivid colours (more red blood than others) dialogues reducted to some essential phrases, powerfull graphic presentation. Read the book and see the movie, its perfect trasposition, with a good cast and a very good soundtrack. The best action movie of the year made on the basis of the best graphic novel of the year (2k miles "above" V for Vendetta, movie and book).

I picked this one up as I am a massive 300 fan, it promised a extra disk of a new feature about the making of the comic book to film. For half an hour, it's intresting to see how they made it into being a hit for America and here in England. The film is more or less the same running time here, the second disk has the same extras but it's the extra goods that makes it more than four stars. A beautful book-like where the disks are, a special message from Zack Synder, the director, coloured pages from the comic and the film. Then a extra box where there are five photos from the film and a very special 3d moving picture of Leonidas throwing the spear. It's worth your money if you love the movie a lot but it was a little expenive when I bought it. ... Read More:

Not normally a genre I'd be interested in but, having seen some decent reviews, I gave this a go. I won't spoil the film by adding to the plot summary but there are some interesting themes aired during the 90 minutes: the middle-class v chav 'war' is thought provoking as is the battle between evil and not-so-evil among the feral kids. What constitutes acceptable societal behaviour is also illustrated by the director in a series of vignettes (selfish parking, dogs defecating, shaven headed morons at the bar). Not a classic but a challenging film and certainly not one if you don't care for graphic screen violence.

It is, of course, impossible to make a non political film about the Maze Hunger Strikes of the early 80's. The events came from the political situation in Northern Ireland of the previous 12 (60?) years.
In my opinion McQueen does the right thing by concentrating on a single particular and admittedly very dramatic event of the period. Perhaps someone will one day make a comprehensive epic about the period but maybe it isn't the time yet. The general political details of how the protests arose are given in the film but mostly the camera just shows the events as they arise without comment.
The film has 3 parts. The first shows the self imposed conditions the prisoners lived in during the Blanket and Dirty protests. While I ... Read More:

With this type of hunt-and-kill plot, American movies tend to favour using their rustic redneck in-bred freaks; over here in Blighty we do the same sort of movie but the bad guys are our dysfunctional car-stealing chavs and happy-slappers. Part exploration of modern parenting and its impact on society, and part brutal murder movie, Eden Lake is uncompromising and bleak. What starts as a relaxing break at a soon-to-be developed lake, a middle class couple soon find themselves the victims of a gang of wild underclass teenagers, fighting for life and limb in a maze of trees and woodland.
All the performances are pretty good and the film does have an edgy reality to it which makes it pretty harrowing in parts. The message of the film is morally ... Read More:

This is brilliant in all aspects; from the acting to the story line, from the costumes to the locations, from the bloody action to the naked romping. It simply has it all. Whereas The Tudors failed to produce a gripping plot, here the characters come to life in a well written and executed TV series of 4 episodes.
The Devil's Whore is based upon the true story of Lady Fanshawe who wrote her life story in 1676. This series is based around her life during and after The English Civil War between the Parliamentarians, led by Oliver Cromwell and the Royalists, led by King Charles 1, between 1640 and 1649.
Watch as her life twists one way and then another, intermingled with Honest John, King Charles, and Oliver Cromwell.
