Denzil Washington stars in this high class chiller in which he plays a cop trying to deal with an opponent who could literally be anybody at any time. A good cast including John Goodman and Donald Sutherland provide excellent support. Combine this with a surprisingly clever script and decent direction and you'll find a film that thrills and surprises in equal measures. No more so than the ending which has a lovely twist which I certainly didn't see coming. Fortunately for us there is no basis in reality for this story. I wasn't lucky enough to catch this series on TV all those years ago and don't ever remember it being repeated. Found it by chance on Amazon and the great reviews made me buy it. It sat on my bookshelf for a couple of weeks until Sunday evening when I watched the first episode. It got me hooked almost immediately and like the last reviewer I got through the entire 23 episodes in three days. It was totally addictive, like reading a great book you just can't put down - just one more chapter, until before you know it it's 3am and there's work tomorrow. The 5th installment of Hammers Dracula films is excellent in my opinion. There was a review in a newsapaper stating that this was a recovery from the last film (risen from the grave). I think people said that because there was no one else besides Lee of any real substance. Ralph Bates fills that role excellently not as an adversary but as a catalyst in reviving Dracula with the help of Roy Kinnear and Peter Sallis as well as other dodgy blokes. The ending is a bit of a letdown as it isn't completly clear how Lee dies(which is why I can only give a 4) The plot 3 dodgy repressed victorian dignitaries visit various brothels and like to think themselves adventurers in the darker part of human nature. I have totally missed this on TV. OK, having developed a substantial allergy for ads, I miss almost everything on TV, except football. But the reviews at Amazon were enthusiastic enough, and the name of Steven Bochco seemed quite trustworty, ditto the cast. As you can buy Seasons 1 AND 2 for the same price as Season 1 OR Season 2 (separately), I had little doubts in my choice. The result? After the boxset arrived, I've witnessed several sunrises. The verdict for Mr. Bochco and Co: guilty!!!!! My advice for anyone: grab it now! It's really amazing.
