I should first declare that I am in the minority of the U.K. audience who is experienced at playing american football.
I think this film acurrately shows what it takes to make the team as an outsider. During the action sequences, players didn't seem to hold back much which was great.
The obligatory romance was limp, but it wasn't what the film was about. This is a film about commitment to succceed, patience and staying focussed.
Included also is a short documentary about Vince Papale, and the making of the film. It is well worth watching after the film.
I am not convinced that this is a film for everyone. However if you are seriously interested in american football, then I would recommend ... Read More:

I was honestly not expecting much from this film. The storyline looked pretty depressing but I still felt like I was missing something so I decided to watch it. How happy was I when I'd finished watching it! It was a great and heartwarming film with good performances from the cast and a comic stance which I loved! I'd really recommend this film to anyone who wants to see someone enjoy the time they have on earth as much as they can.

It has been done a million times and this won't be the last time the "teacher, student, rebel," mechanism will be tried. Take one recluse (Sean Connery) and an aspiring under privileged student (Rob Brown VI) to cancel out a dysfunctional environment. They even have a common nasty antagonist (F. Murray Abraham) to pick on.
Predictability is not the problem. It starts out so noisy that you will have to turn the sound off for the first five minutes. Everything from the story to the environment to the camera shots is mediocre. Anything that may have been of use for writing or refereed to writing is glossed over with music or faded out. You can be assured this movie has nothing to do with writing other than hitting the (typewriter) keys hard enough. ... Read More:

I feel slightly compelled to write this review to balance out the single other one on this page, and to display my enthusiasm that this film has eventually been released on DVD in the UK. The film is not a classic and it's not particularly original. But for a cheap Sci-Fi flick it provides a lot of entertainment and more importantly a lot of dry, observational humour that you wouldn't expect from a Hollywood action flick. Perhaps that's why it's stayed under the radar so much. Although the film eventually degenerates into fairly standard run and gun action fare, the first half is excellent entertainment as we see this alien creature inhabiting different bodies and going after whatever it wants. As a satire on 80's consumerism it works much better than the ... Read More:

High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story [2003] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
You will need a region 1 DVD player.
When i tried to play it on my PC the intervideo software already on the disc gave me a problem requiring codecs. Checking their website they recommend BUYING WinDVD from Intervideo to watch on PC.
For the price if your a poker fan it's worth a watch but don't expect a classic in the content or the performances.
It's difficult not to think you are watching an episode of The Sopranos.
