Scrooge

starring: Albert Finney, Alec Guinness, Edith Evans, Kenneth More, Laurence Naismith
directed by: Ronald Neame
November 22, 2004

After watching the dreadfully earnest 1984 George C Scott 'A Christmas Carol' (where only Liz Smith in the tiny role of Mrs. Dilber captured the spirit) it was a joy to go back to 1970 when they still knew how to do these things. Apart from anything else, Dickens' story is a tumult of energy and unrestrained joy, adjective piled on adjective - 'going over the top' is simply not a concept that applies here, and the Director understands this completely. The film with its magic, colour and exuberance provides the perfect visual metaphor for Dickens' glittering prose and all here serves the one purpose - Art Direction, individual performances and choreographed crowd scenes coalesce to provide the Victorian Christmas of our dreams.

Having 2 accomplished actors in Michael Caine and Steve Martin play off each other in adopting increasingly ridiculous roles as their characters develop in the movie is simply a sight to behold. Despite what most people might say, some of the twists I found geniunely surprising. The movie's beautiful setting and tale of 2 conmen one upping each other according to their style of 'conmanship' never gets old. This is definitely worth buying and watching with the family or friends. Once you suspend a certain amount of realism theres no reason why someone shouldn't have fun watching this classic caper. 9/10

If you want a gritty film thats has a good storyline and fabulously acted parts then this is the one for you.
Bridget plays a ruffian, a drug abusing lowlife who has taken part in a chemist shop slaying whilst her gang was looking for drugs.
She is sentenced to death. They kill her by lethel injection.
Then she wakes up, she has been offered a second chance in life but there are rules, she must behave, obey the rules and follow orders. Gabriel Burne plays the agent that recruited her and its his job to see she flies right and gets with the programme, the main incentive being of course the fact that she is already legally dead, if they wanted to kill her now for misbehaving no one would know any different.
She has a talent ... Read More:

I'm a sci-fi fan so my comments are biased but I thoroughly enjoyed this mini-series. I would recommend it to viewers who like films of a weird/otherworldy/supernatural quality. Definitely not down-to-earth stuff but then the characters are quite real and believable.

What I like about this movie very much is the beautiful location and the fact that it is not an action-packed movie. Instead the story unfolds very slowly. It is the type of movie where you need to listen carefully to the conversations and also read a bit between the lines at times. The film has got some funny bits in it, which is nice, but if I had to use just one word to describe it then I would say atmospheric. A movie to watch if you feel like relaxing. The guitar piece in the middle of the movie is also very nice.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad [2000] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Alec Baldwin, Cody McMains, Russell Means, Peter Fonda, Jared Wall
directed by: Britt Allcroft

My 3-year-old loves Thomas, loves the DVDs and loves playing with the toys. I picked this up for him, despite the mixed reviews, and it's an absolute disaster! The character of Diesel 10 is morphed into an evil, destructive threat, out to kill other engines seemingly without any explanation. It's completely americanised good vs. evil rubbish, totally unsuited to Thomas & Friends or the 2-5 age group it's aimed at. My little boy seemed to accept the human characters and the different voices, but after 20 minutes he became visibly upset at Diesel 10 (one of his favourite toys!), and asked for it to be switched off. The only moment this movie brought our whole family together was when we all took it to the bin!

I have never writen a review before so this has got to be pretty bad.Probably one of the worst films I've ever seen a load of rubbish and very boring. Some of the worst acting ever seen and some of the worst chosen actors as well. it doesn't hold your attention at all.
