I thought this film was brilliant. I loved it at the cinema and couldn't wait to buy it on DVD. Of course it helps that the gorgeous Dr McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy is in it! The chemistry between the two actors makes you believe in them. Go and buy this film if you love a chick flick!

Even before the film starts, a little girl of 4 has gone missing from the seedier side of Boston, and a police search is already well under way. A young private investigator is called in, employed by the child's aunt, because he is thought to have connections on the street that the police cannot tap into. He and his female partner set about their task but, somewhat against stereotype in such stories, they are at all times willing to work with, call in or support the police. Eventually lead character Patrick Kenzie, the PI, becomes obsessed with finding little Amanda, perhaps a little more obsessed than the background story leads you to expect.

First of all it's a good story that is never what I would call gripping yet holds your ... Read More:

Shane Black is easily one of the pioneering writers in action films, being responsible for the entire Lethal Weapon series, The Last Boy Scout, Last Action Hero and The Long Kiss Goodnight. It wasn't until Kiss Kiss Bang Bang though, that he took the reins as a director and the result is one of the most enjoyable films in years.
The film follows Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer as a burglar who accidentally lands a major hollywood role and the private detective tasked with giveing him detective lessons respectively. Downey Jr breathes charisma as the perpetually out of his depth Harry, one of the most likeable protagonists Black has written. Kilmer plays the brilliantly grumpy Gay Perry completely deadpan and makes the perfect straight man to ... Read More:

The title says it all. I bought this dvd from Amazon directly as new. However the dvd received from Amazon (note: not marketplace) is clearly scratched, the cover is worn and the thin plastic is torn in places.

To put it mildly, I'm not impressed with Amazon regarding this.

The acting and storyline are fantastic.

For once, a Hollywood film which parts from Hollywood story conventionality. There is no hero, no bad guy, no good guy, and no happy ending.

There is some brilliant acting, great filming, pretty good sex scenes (can't knock that), and an ambiguous end.

OK, anyone familiar with modern detective shows will know that the police bit is full of holes - the police would definitely have found and convicted the people they needed to (I won't say more, as I don't want to spoil).

But though the brilliant acting owes everything to Hollywood, the other good things about the film owe everything to its French origins.

All in all, a great film, which stands out against ... Read More:

I recall seeing the original of this starring Charles Grodin. With a great script by the brilliant Neil Simon, it was witty, intelligent and infinitely more subtle than this Farrelly Brothers update. I say `update' and not `remake' because apart from the initial premise it bears no resemblance to the Grodin movie and features the usual gross-out comedy that is the Farrelly Brothers trademark.

Ben Stiller plays, as always, Ben Stiller... a likeable guy who finds circumstances going out of his control. Just as well he's good at what he does... Another plus point is the performance of Ben's real-life father Jerry, who plays his dad. More famous for his over the top performances in 'Seinfeld' as George Costanza's (Jason Alexander) pop Frank, he's his ... Read More:

This is a great film. The acting is superb and the story first rate. Although slightly confusing on first watch (there are a lot of minor details you have to force yourself to remember in order to fully appreciate the end) the films story is incredibly clever though and a fantastic mystery that although you wont be able to work out yourself you will be screaming at the screen to find out the answer! The acting is excellent although this is not a "funny" film as such the one liners delivered never fail to make you laugh. On blu ray the picture is as crisp and clear as you would expect. however this doesnt really justify paying so much extra. Extras are also disappointing with a commentary (which I havent yet listened to but is supposed to be good) a 4min gag reel and the ... Read More:

Given no publicity and not shown in cinemas in the UK due to events at the time of release Gone Baby Gone passed by under the carpet.

It is a hidden gem that really shouldn't be missed. If you are a member of the 'yuck, it's Ben Affleck' bandwagon please, don't be put off. If this is anything to go by and he is hanging up the acting, we should have some great stuff in the future - maybe another Good Will Hunting?

Without giving too much away about halfway through there's a major left turn in the way the film is going and it's followed up with a series of them until the end. The only odd thing I found is Michelle Monaghan, I'm not sure that her charactor really needs to be here. Adds a bit of balance I suppose?

It's a mark of how wildly over budget Mission: Impossible 2 went and how generous its star's deal was that despite an impressive-on-paper gross of $550m Paramount constantly cancelled a third entry as unprofitable, even paying off cast and writing off South African second-unit work already in the can until the budget was halved and Tom Cruise agreed to substantially reduce his percentage of the take - by which time original director Joe Carnahan had already walked out over that old favourite, `creative differences,' and an entirely new story come up with. Hardly the most promising of omens for a franchise that always seemed little more than an excuse for its star to play James Bond. Yet despite the bad track record for Hollywood threequels, Mission: Impossible III is a massive ... Read More:
