I was expecting really good things of this movie based on its reputation. No doubt the stage show works really well; the potential is clearly there. For me, John Waters messes this up by taking a gross and crude approach of self-parody and ridicule which for me served both to make it less funny and to reduce the impact of the racisim / sizism / corruption message. Subtly camp would have been much sharper, I feel. The pace falls flat, much of it is dull even with the spectacle of Divine the good dancing etc. I suspect I should have watched the 2007 version, which since it is not by John Waters probably does it better, but this has put me off - at least for quite a while.

Light, fluffy nonsense, I loved it. This is a cheery and not very cynical look at homophobia. Despite this, the blossoming relationship bit was actually very sweet. RuPaul was a total revelation too.

Serial Mom is the funniest film I have seen in a very long time, Kathleen Turner playing the psychotic Beverly Sutphin is hilarious. The best part of the film is when Beverly is in court, I was laughing the whole way through.
There are no extras on the DVD though, just a trailer but this is one funny film, buy it.

This willfully mysterious 1997 movie from David Lynch has been most convincingly described as a fugue - in music, a piece in which one theme is followed by another, with the first lingering in the backdrop as a counterpoint, or alternatively as a flight from reality into amnesia.
I frequently watch Lost Highway every year and i still walk away from it scratching my head in utter confusion yet i still feel entertained by it.
his films are LEGendary...but out of all that i have seen this one seems to stand out the most...and is one of the most hilarious comedies that i have ever seen!!
DIVINE is fantastic in every scene he's in...he will be missed.
it is occasionally vulgar but all for good measure and although gross out it has a hard impact that makes you feel for the characters...and what characters they are:P aunt ida is scene stealing.
its basically a really dirty carry on movie...only far classier...and arguably more enjoyable...may offend some people(ie south park before south park)a genuinely great film from the pope of trash(but its so much more than that)john waters has to be one of my favourite directors due to him taking the fun out of everyday ... ..A lovely, inane story with the typical cast of oddballs and unlikely, loveable protagonists. Thinking about it, John Waters is almost like an American Almodovar (circa Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown). Polyester isn't as funny as W.O.T.V, but still enjoyable. Really needs the Odorama card for the full effect...

After reading all the great reviews for this film I thought it would be a sure fire hit, however when i started to watch it I was really disappointed and quite embarrassed, the storyline was stupid, the acting was embarrassing (apart from the v gorge Dorff, but even he couldn't save this film)I was ready to turn it off after the first 15 mins but made myself watch it and wish I hadn't the ending was terrible and I thought this film was also rather crude!!if you ask me DO NOT buy this film!!
