When it aired in my country in the summer of 2002 and i loved it. it was one of the best mini series i have ever watched. i don't know if it was the subject, gay romance in 19 century England, but this is to this day still in my top 5 of most see mini series.
the plot, the script, the character and the acting are amazing. you can tell it is BBC made due to it's quality.
i highly recommend it and If you don't want to buy try and rent it from somewhere I promise it be worth it.

I really enjoyed this movie, which worked for me on several levels, or at least across several generations. I was there in the seventies listening to bands like Strange Fruit, and the film got the feel of those times right. Now I'm an old geezer like the band members, and the film got the feel of that right too. Connolly as roadie was a good choice, providing a salty anchor for the sometimes thin narrative.
One thing that seems 'off' about the way the film was promoted is the praise heaped on Mick Jones (Spooky Tooth, Foreigner) and Chris Difford (Squeeze) for the great music. Their names don't even appear in the IMDB listing for the film and I got the impression that the real force behind the music was Steve Donnelly, who is credited ... Read More:

A great film with a great cast. I couldn't believe they could fit all the events from Creation to the Exodus into just 3 hours, but they did it and did a marvellous job at it. The one thing that really struck me was how all the Bible stories came to life and were linked with each other. A masterpiece!

This film does not put a foot wrong: it has a top notch cast, it is beautifully set, shot and edited, and has a script that it is by turns witty, sombre and always intelligent. Natasha Little has never done anything better, and has created a wonderful character in Edith Thompson. It is a thoughtful and very moving film. See it and enjoy!

If you have been so fortunate as to watch this movie in a proper movie theatre you could have spotted all the people who have actually been subjected to ART - those would have been the ones laughing the most. It was a revelation for me that something so personal and traumatic could be transformed into something so hilarius - THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
