Basically, everyone else seems to have just said the plot of the film. I will say that this movie is one of the most beautiful, amazing films ever made and is best watched alone, with a clear mind. Heath Ledger is commonly said to have given a brilliant performance, which I agree with completely, on parr with his last complete role as the Joker. However, I do feel Jake Gyllenhaal is very underrated in this film, I love his performance, particularly at the start of the film, though his character's actions begin to get on my nerves towards the end, this doesn't take away from the magnificent ending, which could not be bettered. I'm almost embarrassed that I thought it was good when I was a kid. Because I was too young to understand the bad points and let's face it, we don't have high demands of quality when we are young. I thought power rangers had good acting then... riiight moving swiftly on. Anyway I watched it again a year or so ago when it was on TV and realised just how innocent I must have been. Not only is this film crap, but its pro American theme that is used to carry the story really made me cringe... HARD. Its like a serious version of Team America. More trashy Cruise footage, same rubbish different theme. This is Top Gun but with cars. Mr macho Cruise, well as macho as you can be at 4'9", again puts himself in danger with an exciting possibilty of him being injured in a film but yet again another miraculous escape. The wheelchair bit is a straight ripoff of Talledega Nights, has this man no originality? Its a boring sport to make a film about anyway, driving round and around a loop all day, typically American, this film is schmaltzy and predictable. Since the late 90's disney's 2d animated feature films are consistently disapointed, largely due to the fact of the 3D industries boom. This film out 2004, at the time was disneys final 2d animation on the drawing board, as they decided it wasnt making money and to switch to only 3d films. Im glad to say they are doing new one coming out in a few years, but this traditional 2d animation is the true art of animation. I watched this film as was quite suprised. It has some very interesting characters amd the story also was quite good. Not good enough for legendary status, but good none the less.
