Malkovich is once again mesmerising as the tragic but memorable Lennie, a simple minded man born into a cruel world. Senise plays his inseparable buddy and guardian, George, and you feel for him as he struggles hard to cope with looking after the difficult Lennie, mainly because the harsh world doesn't have the time or patience to understand such a man whose behavior can be a little worrying and eccentric. The stretched out wheat fields make a great movie landscape and the mood of the era is quite well defined, it seems. Then you come to the humanity of the famous story, the painful humanity that will not leave you, just as the pain will not leave George, who is forced into making an unenviable decision by circumstances you sort of sense coming. ... I may be slightly biased (this is the first horror type thing I ever saw, and basically got me into horror in the first place) but this is just great that is pretty much all I have to say about it

I read on IMDB that 'Paint your Wagon' single handidly killed off the western and musical genres. Ignore sush tripe.

It's a long film, but in this day of long films with pointless side plots, this doesn't waste a minute. Filled with great tunes, funny (and clever!) jokes and superb performances I'd say this is a must. At little more than £5 in highstreet stores it's a bargain.

The apartment is one of the essential Christmas movies along with the other black and white classics - It's a wonderful life, Miracle on 34th Street, Some like it hot and Scrooge. It's a fantastic film for a cold, dark December night and seems to work best at that time of year, just like The odd couple or Rear window work best in summer.

This must be one of the best movies ever made.
In the seventies Messrs Newman and Redford made several films together and they went together like Bob and Bing. They are ably supported by a kaleidascope of stars and boy do they pull it off. We used to say at the time, "You don't have a leading lady now - you have Robert Redford"!!!! Set in the Depression in the thirties they overcome adventures and problems to pull off a magnificent con. The sting in the tail really is a sting and would do a scorpion proud.
The younger generation are so accustomed to the predictable nonsense that is coming out of Hollywood these days, it is great to see what they were capable of pulling off thirty years ago.
If you haven't seen this film, then DON'T MISS IT.

This is an exceptional movie on many levels. The adaptation from play to screen carried without the look and feel. The music outsells the movie. They picked the best actors for EVERY part. The use of colored filters [Todd-AO (70-mm version)] and actually using a remote island (Tioman Island, Malaysia) added to the exotic feel. The social implications are still with us today.
With all the cinema options today I almost forgot that I had this tape until yesterday when Ray Walston who played Luther Billis died. I keep thinking of "Honey Bun" Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II Music by Richard Rodgers Performed by Mitzi Gaynor, Ray Walston, Chorus.

A film I never tire of watching. Superb performances from Redford and Newman as they outwit the late Robert Shaw in the big con.
The film twists and turns but never bores. The cast reads like "Who's Who" and they give of their best. The script is outstanding and I'll bet this one was great fun to make.
If you have not seen it, then whatever you do, DO NOT MISS IT. You will not be disappointed.
Must be one of the top movies of all time.

If I'm commenting on the film I would have to say it's wonderful. I've always loved it, probably because of the music, scenery and it's a perfect way to spend a couple of hours.
If I'm commenting on the product, it was so annoying to have an intermission in the middle. What's the thinking behind that? It may not bother most people but it really irritated me. If I'd wanted a break I would pause it when I wanted. I sold my DVD and will probably buy a video. That's the only reason for the low score.

Well what have we here? What we have is a great Sunday afternoon (or evening) movie entertainment. The plot is a simple one...villains on a train versus the good guys on the same train.
A strong touch of `Narrow Margin' here and also think of Cannonball Run, Dukes of Hazzard and the
Beverly Hillbillies! Maybe also Tough Guys. It's that kind of film. Having said that, this kind of thing is what the Yanks do best...they have the cash, the resources and above all the room. This is not a thriller to be taken seriously....except perhaps for the dialogue...try to follow this closely...its pretty sharp in places...don't cut yourself! There are some great scenes to be had in this film (it was up for awards after all) especially the finale which is particularly spectacular ... Read More:
