I was not even born when the first installment of Godfather came out in the theatres. But I always heard about it from all my elder family members, who had the chance to see the movie in the seventies. They always admired about it and its sequel that went into theaters in 1974. This June, when the Godfather trilogy box set came out, all the stories which I used to hear from other people came across my mind, and I immediately bought the Godfather trilogy box set, containing all three movies and two bonus discs covering the special features.
When I started watching the trilogy from part 1, it gripped me right from the beginning till the end. Director, Francis Ford Coppola dealt so many characters, beautifully, without hampering the pace of the movie. ... Read More:

the godfather trilogy on blu ray look better than ever. Anyone who enjoys these films would know £34 or there abouts is very good value considering its got arguably the greatest film ever made among the collection...the picutre quality is utterly gomsmacking...I cannot tell the difference between most modern day films on Blu-Ray...
I have a 2ps3's with the latest firmware and a Panasonic 42" HD telly

Everyone seems to have reviewed the Steelbook Amazon Exclusive version of this. I actually prefer this version and it is the one I bought. For one thing I feel that cramming all the discs into one small case means that it gets lost on the shelf amidst the rest of your DVD collection. A substatntial box means that it has more of a presence up there, and also it's not AS big as the original 2001 release so it's still slim. This is due to the extremely slim individual cases, which I prefer than having all discs in one case because each story gets its own front image filling the square and nice images and synposis of each one on the back. (this is contrary to the product image above which makes the case appear as if its the same size as the 2001 release). Altogether ... Read More:

1* isn't for the film (which is 5* and then some) but for this DVD.
ITS A DUAL SIDER DVD - yep, flip over halfway through the movie, you know when you're nice and comfy?, snuggled up on the sofa with the wife? enjoying one of cinema's defining films?
YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND TURN THE BLOODY DVD OVER TO WATCH THE SECOND HALF OF THE FILM!!!!!
I mean, please accept my apologies, but I thought we were in the 21st century? I havent had to turn anything over since listening to my 'Best of the Clash' LP back in the early 90's pre CD days!
Why this DVD is still available I don't know.
Buy the special edition instead and watch one of cinema's greatest achievements UN-INTERRUPTED.

Fans of Gilliam will find much to keep them happy here. There's nightmarish, dystopian imagery in spades, dream sequences are lavish and the finale is really quite masterful.
The problem however, lies in the rest of the film. The humour kept me interested for about the first 30-45 minutes, after which it starts to wear a little thin. The same can be said about the plot - it starts out snappily enough but becomes seemingly endless in the latter half of the film. Logical ending points give rise to yet further story development and at over 2 hours in length, it became quite a slog to get through. Lastly, the characterisation just didn't work for me. Not sure if it was the acting, the script, or both but I didn't care too much for any of the characters, ... Read More:

I watched this movie in 3 instalments because it's nearly 3 hours long.
It was okay but the storyline and style of acting and actors were much like I've seen in countless gangster type films like this one.It was a little predictable and I think the fact that Martin Scorsese got the man who was writing the story as a book to delay finishing the book and help him write a screenplay lowered the quality.Screenplays usually work best when a finished and established book is adapted for the screen.

Once Upon A Time In America [1984]
THE LEADING ACTOR IN SERGIO LEONE'S DREAMING EPIC IS NOT JAMES WOODS NOR IS IT ELIZABETH McGovern; NOR FOR ALL THE EXCELLENCE IN HIS PERFORMANCE, IS IT ROBERT de NIRO. THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE FILM IS 'TIME'! THE THEME IS ONE THAT HAS ALWAYS FASCINATED MR.LEONE. ONE COULD POINT TO SOME OF THE MORE OBVIOUS SYMBOLS IN HIS EARLIER FILMS LIKE THE HANDLESS CLOCKS THAT LITTER THE LANDSCAPE OF 'ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST' OR THE MUSICAL FOB-WATCH IN 'FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE' THAT WAS A CONTINUOUS REMINDER OF RAPE AND REVENGE AND WAS USED TO TIME THE FINAL SHOOT-OUT!
IN 'ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA', THE ITEM WHICH FIRST BRINGS THE YOUNG NOODLES(de NIRO) AND MAX(JAMES WOODS) TOGETHER IF THEIR LIFE TIME OF CRIME IS A STOLEN POCKET ... Read More:

These comedies rely on the juxtaposition and bringing together within close family circles of wildly differing points of view about how life should be led. Robert de Nero's character is the control-freak, tense, quiet, family man. He's an ex-CIA agent and he's never really going to like whoever his daughter (Teri Polo) decides to marry. She wants to marry Ben Stiller. The problem is that Stiller's father (Dustin Hoffman) is a laid-back house-husband and his mother (Barbra Streisand) is a sex-therapist for the over-60s.
As other reviewers have written, this set up allows for some genuine masterly comic situations that will have you screaming out loud with laughter on first viewing. But this kind of comedy relies largely on the factor of surprise: once seen, it is rarely so ... Read More:
