Simply brilliant - the ISIHAC regulars plus Jeremy Hardy doing what they do best - making people laugh. All the favourite rounds are here in the equivalent of two extended radio shows. The teams simply sit at desks on stage, much like a radio recording, and perform. Humph is thoroughly bored, irritable and bemused throughout, barely tolerating the proceedings at times. Jeremy Hardy's singing is hilarious, especially his rendition of 'Thank you for the music', while the old hands are on top form. A fabulous tribute to a wonderful man, recorded just weeks before Humph's death, this is a must-own for all fans; the trumpet solo at the end is brilliant and the standing ovation brings a tear to the eye.

that I used to watch this show after school when I was 7!
I remember loving this show, but now, watching it as a 27 year old, I can't believe my parents let me watch it! Apparently Australia was the only country where The Goodies was screened (uncensored!) during children's viewing hours. I'm glad it was though!

(and it worked out cheaper and quicker to get it shipped from the UK than from a store 1 hour away. Go figure!)

Very dated but with flashes of brilliance. The five recovered episodes on this DVD are sloppily edited, with the Make the Lovely Aimi MacDonald Fund being introduced after appearing previously. The extra material is only partly connected with the show, mostly Tim Brooke Taylor's interview. A longer interview with Terry Williams barely mentions At Last the 1948 Show, focusing almost entirely on Do Not Adjust Your Set and (in Passing) Monty Python's Flying Circus. Obviously they put the same extras into both DVD packages.
Still, it's cheap.

The Goodies were in most people eye's a kids version of Monty Python - (including John Cleese)- zany, groovy! wacked out silliness! And bloody funny!
Grab these discs while you can- (know this is the LWT series) but the BBC in their wisdom left the original films to literally rot in the archives and not many episodes survive. Even the bbc dvd releases are rumoured to have been put together after they sought out collectors and remastered old videoed episodes for their release as they didn't have the originals. So unless they do this to the other 'old video copies' doing the rounds on P2P shares- it's going to be hard to see this classic comedy in it's entirety on dvd unless you show an interest and buy the dvd's.
Bring back those memories- ... Read More:

The Goodies (4 Disc BBC Box Set)

starring: Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie
May 09, 2005

For those who are wondering, this is a combination of both the "At Last" and "At Last...A Second Helping" DVD releases. In other words, they just took the 2 DVDs that are in each of those releases, and put all 4 of them into this box set.

My only quibble is that there aren't more episodes in the sets!

This series of Best Of... comedy DVDs from the Beeb have been patchy to say the least. Many have included classic sketches that you're happy to watch time and again, but a few 'also rans' have krept in too; I accept that one man's 'hit' may be another's 'miss'; but many of these compilations have only around an hour's worth of material which seems rather mean.

This Marty Feldman disc has some great and memorable sketches on it, I think there was only one which disappointed. The picture transfers are fair and the theme tune is actually in stereo! But it does only run for just over an hour with no special features, not even a brief biography. Now that it's being sold for around a fiver it doesn't seem quite such a rip off, but it could have been ... Read More:

Given the rave reviews here, I can only assume that the three reviewers are siblings of the production team, or maybe one of their nans. I love comedy shows, and I love the work of armstrong and sheersmith in armstrong and miller, and the first two series of league of gentlemen. Sadly i cannot warn you strongly enough to avoid this series. it is absolutely awful - shockingly bad given the talent of the main two actors. the script is appalling, i watched the first episode and found it to be entirely laugh free. in fact coronation street is funnier. i should have realised that there was a very good reason why a second service was not commissioned. i will sell anyone my copy for a quid. box and disc in good condition, product barely used.

Ahhh memories. I watched The Goodies as a child, & now it's wonderful to have the DVD. The comedy is sharp, original & hilarious. Graham, Tim & Bill really broke new ground back in the 70's, & now, after more than 30 years the humour is still great & for me it has stood the test of time.
Just take the episode ''Tower of London''. I mean... tiny Beefeaters dissatified with eating corned beef. Genius !! For me, the more twisted & unexpected the ideas, the better !! All 8 episodes here are BRILLIANT. I recommend this to anyone who remembers the Seventies & likes wacky humour. Absolutely wonderful.

First of all, these DVD's are very funny. A very important point if you are thinking of buying them.

My favourite sketches are The 4 Yorkshiremen, Peter Cook's hilarious "Matter Entirely for yourselves" sketch as the judge in the Thorpe trial and Lenny Henry's take off of an American Blues legend.

The first shows are in the mid 70's and are dominated by the Pythons, Peter Cook and even Peter Ustinov! This has some great footage of the performers backstage discussing the sketches they have just done.By the last show in 1989 it is the likes of Ben Elton, French and Saunders and Lenny Henry who are the main attractions. It is interesting to see the changes in comedy over that period.

I've taken away a star for the dodgy 80's music that in ... Read More:
