Brilliant animation, endearing central 'character', nice plot line, and the environmental issues are well handled , and not rammed down your throat - consequently they will be lost on most of the kids that watch it , I suspect - nevertheless , it's good to see it in mainstream cinema , and you never know, subliminally....................
However , the intensity and pace of the action really got to me about 3/4 of the way through, and 1/2 hour of it could have been cut out ( and I don't usually have attention span problems - it was the same in Ratatouille - why do the always overdo a good thing? - it's for kids for god's sake, they are happy with a shorter film ).
see it though!

Bad,Bad, science fiction. Staggering, so limited in scope and view. This film is behind even existing tech. Just read one of the Ian Banks Culture novels to understand. If you don't know it's real now, you are already too late!

There are not enough words to express how much I truly adore this movie, it's legendary! I could watch this every day and still not get bored, I'm not even going to wait until I have kids to try and justify me buying it.

Some people consider "Bug's Life" as not being on the same level of quality as other Pixar productions, but I really can not agree with them. My daughter clearly wouldn't agree either. This is a very funny movie, with a lot of interesting innovations (we will never look at bugs in the same way, me and my family) and a kind of surprising kindness - even the bad guys are shown with some understanding (having chosen the life of parasite racketeers, they are now trapped by it - as much as their ant victims). The principal hero is possibly one of the most likeable characters I ever saw. A little warning - there is one scene at the end, of the final demise of the leader of grasshoppers, that can impress the littlest children (under 6) - otherwise this movie is ... Read More:

This is a great box set and a valuable addition to anyone's dvd collection. the only downfall is that Monsters Inc. isn't in wide-screen format, but still a great movie.
A Bug's Life is a double sided dvd with two formats on each side, either wide-screen or standard tv (4x3). The movie is not split over the two sides like other reviewers claim and there is no need to flip it over just to clarify.
I would have like Toy Story to be included but since it has it's own box set and Toy Story 3 is due in the future I'll wait.
