 Rating: - As good now as it was then....I bought this DVD for my young son when he was two years old, with a degree of nostalgia in mind. I would not have anticipated quite what a hit it has been. The gentle, moral tales have captivated him to an amazing degree. We must have been watching these for a year now and he doesn't tire of them at all. The animation of the pictures is very simple but effective, the music is just wonderful. Unlike some other DVDs I've bought (Trumpton, Clangers) this one has lasted the test of time wonderfully - my only complaint is that the new Gladiator tale jars slightly image wise and leaves utterly unexplained how Mr Benn is supposed to know Basher in the first place!! Rating: - MagicalOkay, I may be a little biased due to nostalgia, but Mr Benn was always my favourite programme as a child and I find it still casts the same spell on me 30 years later. I can't quite put my finger on why I find it so wonderful, I think it's just the combination of the premise, the morality of each little adventure, the distincitve animation and Ray Brooks' narration. Mr Benn is a wonderful character and I love how at the end of each adventure he finds his life has been enriched - as will the viewer. Quite often favourite childhood programmes dissapoint when viewed with adult eyes. Thankfully, this is not the case with Mr Benn. Probably the most treasured DVD in my collection. Rating: - Fantastic choldrens viewingI grew up watching Mr Benn and loved it..Now i have bought this dvd for my 3 year old and he loves it too..a must by... Rating: - One of the best ever pieces of children's TVMr Benn is easily one of my favourite children's programmes, short and simple but also magical and truly unforgettable. I never realised that only 14 episodes were made though, maybe it is because time goes a lot slower as a child, that and the fact that by the time an episode was repeated, I must have thought it was a brand new episode but anyway, quality will always be more important than quantity plus it is proof that Mr Benn has great replay value. Another great thing about Mr Benn is that every episode is almost identical up until the point where he changes into the costume and so I could watch any episode randomly and never be quite sure which costume it was going to be, very clever. Mr Ben was visiting all manner of locations and getting into incredible twists on a daily basis long before Harry feakin' Potter showed up. He didn't even need to go to school at Hogg `bleedin' borts either. No Sir! He just nipped into the fancy bleedin' dress shop down the road, so he did. Brilliant stuff, brilliant stuff. Tell that to the kids of today and they won't believe you. |
