This is a proper superhero movie . Downey plays a blinder as the bad guy turned good . What I liked about this film is it just lets you think you can catch your breath then it hits you with another action sequence . And its all action from start to finish . Bring on the sequel.........

The overwhelming success of the Spider-Man and X-Men trilogies revitalised interest and credibility in superhero movies since the original Batman and Superman film franchises fell into great decline. Since then, floodgates have been opened, allowing all kinds of Marvel heroes to have a shot at cinematic stardom.
Although (in my opinion) there haven't been any truly horrible Marvel films, the majority of these haven't lived up to the hype as they could've done. For example, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four (the first film) had all the necessary tools to be on a par with any of the X-Men/Spider-Man films, yet they weren't.
So now, we have Iron Man, the next Marvel legend in line for a big superhero film. When I saw the first trailer, ... Read More:

The superhero movies are really varying in quality. Some truly are excellent (Xmen 1 and 2, Transformers), others have barely anything to tell us (Fantastic 4, Daredevil, etc.).
In my view Iron man clearly falls in the first category. Firstly because Robert Downey Jr doesn't take the role too seriously and has the charisma. Of course the story is not perfect, but it hold together and we all wish there were more action scenes such as the fighter jet battle.
But at the end of the day, the image quality is stunning (a bit too noisy as mentioned in a earlier review) but really demonstrates what bluray is about. I've seen it on a Pioneer 50" plasma and it is nothing short of amazing. The disc interactivity is also nice with HD extras. Clearly it is must ... Read More:

Enjoyable, mindless, and very funny. Downey Jr. was surprisingly brilliant. Little plot or real substance but who cares, just fun hokum and the best film I've seen for a while. Recommended.

My favourite Christmas film. Will is excellent in this "laugh out loud" festive comedy. Watched it in the cinema when it came out and bought the DVD. Basic storyline is baby lived in orphanage - got caught in santa's sack when he delivered presents. Got taken back my mistake to Santa's homeland. Grew up with the elves and eventually realised he was "different". Set sail to New York to find his Dad. Finds life in NYC both fun and hard to deal with. Eventually finds his dad who is on Santa's naughty list!! Bonds with his new found family - but upsets an important client of his new found dad and is thrown out. Eventually finds love and restore NYC's christmas cheer.....A feel good, christmasy, fun filled film.

What a great little film! The story of 2 brothers who argue all the time,as the older one finds the younger one annoying, and the younger one wants his older brother's attention-is something familiar.Divorced parents who are always too busy, and an old house, with lots of nooks and crannies serve as background. But an old strange game is found,a bit like snakes and ladders, only set in space.Against the warnings of the older brother, the youngster turns the key to start the game.Thereafter the story takes off,and the kids find themselves in an amazing adventure in space, where they have to learn to work together,if they are ever going to get back to earth. Some great twists and turns including ravenous giant lizards;a frozen sister;and a lost spaceman(with a nice twist);meteor ... When I saw the film I thought wait a minute, this is just like Jumanji albeit on a much smaller budget and without a big Hollywood name. So it all made sense when I read that this film was based on a book by the same author.
If you haven't seen Jumanji then this film is worth watching. Otherwise don't waste your money coz its more of the same but without the expensive special effects.

Elf looks fantastic on blu-ray. I received the disc this morning and flicked through the movie. It's a definate improvement over the standard DVD but from what I saw it's not demo material (unfortunatley) Still I'd rate the movie 3.5/5 for picture quality which is really good. The sound is Dolby True HD which is superb. The extras seem to be presented in full 1080p (unlike the US release) I watched the trailer and started to play the making of features and the average speed was 19mps to 20+mps. If the extras were in standard def the speed would usually be between 4mps and 8mps. The extras are impressive - two commentarys, Elf Karaoke, several documentarys, deleted scenes and the trailer. It's worth noting that the picture on the cover is different from the one shown. It ... Read More:
