How can I communicate the aberration that this represents?
I hope that a number of you will be repelled simply to hear that the roles of Hermia and Helena are taken (and then forgotten about) by those mascots of "Pretty but Pointless", Calista Flockhart and Anna Friel. Calista Flockhart rides a Penny Farthing bicycle and blows the tumbling tendrils of hair off her forehead regularly - but it gets worse, even when the talent gets more accomplished.
Stanley Tucci would get laughed off a senior school stage for the way that he tries to invest Puck with thoughtfulness and fun: Jimmie Krankee would have done a better job. Rupert Everett's Oberon is reminescent of a Studio 54 Go-Go dancer murmuring something he has a distant memory of, ... Read More:

I was growing up in Edinburgh at about the same time as the main characters and was about the same age as them but somehow I missed seeing this film when it came out. I also read the positive reviews here. So I really wanted to like this. For me the acting, production and story telling all seemed a bit amateur and the whole thing could have done with more editing. The location shots of Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland - some of which are no longer around - are fun however.

This is without doubt one of my all-time favourite movies. See a young Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives), Robert Downey Jr, Sally Field, Kevin Kline and Whoopi Goldberg make the best of a sharply written, funny script.
Where films like Scary Movie parody particular scenes in films, this parodies the whole genre of glossy, trashy, over-the-top American daytime soap operas. At the daytime TV awards we get to see the arc that Sally Field's Celeste Talbert has gone through in the space of a year - comatose, close to death, imprisoned in a South American jail, reunited with a long-lost daughter... and while to her face her fellow cast members are all sweetness and light, behind her back, they're trying everything they can to get rid of ... This movie was really different to anything I've seen before, and having food as the main theme (and an erotic one at that!) if you are over 18ish it will most likely leave you both aroused AND hungry!? Having seen it I really wouldn't describe it as a comedy. There are a few moments which are funny (laugh out loud funny!) but on the whole it is a very unusual film with a sinister undertone which really drew me in. Being spoken in German and subtitled I thought I may lose interest but I didn't at all. It was thoroughly engrossing. Not something I'd watch again, due to the plot I think it's a one-time kind of thing which wouldn't offer much from a second viewing - but pretty darned intriguing the first time round!

The first time, this movie can seem disjointed and the main character unlikable. But by the second or third viewing, the disjointedness becomes complexity and the growth of Robert's character evident. The characterizations are fairly rich and beautifully acted by a fine cast, in beautifully shot sets and costumes. (Unlike the previous reviewer, I think the second half is wonderfully written and generally better.) If I say it reminds of truths of living a good life, that sounds preachy and is misleading; this movie is inspirational in the best sense as well as engaging and entertaining.

Ok, love shakespeare, excellent set of DVD, recomended. But I would not purchase it from Amazon again. In fact I don't think I will be purchasing from Amazon EU again.
I tried to complain about the seller Amazon s.a.r.l, who is the company that does business in the UK, for sending me mail shots from British Gas and Bupa in with my package. I cannot use either of them as I am not a UK resident nore was the sending address a UK address, but they still felt it was fine to send me down to the recycling place.
When I tried to complain the first time I got "thanks for your suggestion" when I was looking for answers, and "send a letter to this UK address if you want to take if further" when I asked for them to answer my questions.

I didn't know what to expect when watching this film but as the other reviewer has written, you are meant to believe it is along the lines of The Dead Poet's Society which I think is a very good film about learning to be yourself and not another brick in the wall. The Emperor's CLub however seems to think that everyone should conform to one code. Although I didn't like the Senator's Character I felt that he had one of the most important lines; "You will not mold my son."
I also found the direction rather heavy handed, whenever the viewer was supposed to think about a certain issue the camera returned to a prop whose significance had been set up at the start of the film.
I do not wish to be too harsh about the film as it is still watchable but don't ... Read More:
