This movie I would pin down is one of the great ultimate slasher movies that really did pave the path for slasher movies of the future.
Unlike Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Halloween (which admittedly are the two prime examples of inspirational slasher movies of their time), this one actually has a plot, and while it does lose itself at certain points, it has a valid point somewhere under all the insanity. An elementary school game (a little like tag but with more sinister play) ends up in the accidental death of young Robin Hammond . Such a good series such a shame many of the great songs that featured in this show have been edited for copyright reasons - including the "Paint it black" theme.
The original soundtrack helped capture the mood and feeling of many of the themes of the show (the sixties, change, racism, drugs etc) and the resulting offering is left flat without them. Please ammend this if it ever makes it to a region 2 release. >>More Details |

The Magician's House (Series One) contains six episodes on two cassettes. The main story is a fantastic tale featuring a five hundred year-old magician played by the wonderful Ian Richardson (To Play the King, An Ungentlemanly Act, lots of stage work, etc, etc) who lives in a secret room behind the chimney of a huge old house and must enlist the aid of some children to preserve the magic atmosphere of the house and the valley it sits in. There are talking animals and an evil apprentice to deal with. The film is beautifully shot in Canada by BBC Wales, and this part can be a delight for young people. Low budget film about the Vietnam war.
If i didn't know better,i would have thought this was filmed by a couple of teenagers who got a camcorder for Christmas and supplied the budget themselves out of their pocket money. It looks like they have got a couple of guys from the local resturant to act as the V.C and the same faces appear in different scenes wearing their black pyjamas. Maybe i am being a tad harsh but i did fast forward at times just to get to the end quicker and my copy will now be found going cheap at a car boot sale near you soon. Stick to the likes of Platoon or Full metal jacket is you want to watch a decent film on the Vietnam war,don't bother with this rubbish. >>More Details |

As a long time fan of both Robert Parker's books and Robert Urich's performance as Spenser I was pleased to see the Lifetime movie collection out on DVD. Well worth the purchase price. Have watched all 4 several times - quality of transfer is good although they could have done with a least a modest package of extras (hence the 4 stars). Would be even more delighted to see the "Spenser for Hire" series produced on DVD. They've tried it with others (Joe Mantanga) but Urich was born to play the part. Hope it will happen soon. 5 stars for that just from memory!
