'Camp Rock' is what I would describe as a good substitute for the finished series of the 'High School Musical' films.
It ticks all the typical Disney movie boxes; shy, unpopular leading lady, hot crush (Joe Jonas), nasty blonde rich girl & a good ol' moral at the end.
'Camp Rock' is better than 'High School Musical 2' but not better than 1 & 3. I don't think there's a mere chance of any Disney musical having a hit bigger than 'Breaking Free' but 'Camp Rock' does have a few catchy tunes, the best being 'This Is Me' sung by Demi Lovato & Joe Jonas.
Ah, the Jonas Brothers. Three pop-rock virgins with a loyal tween fan base, teamed with Disney, a match made in heaven. The middle Jonas (Joe)has the most air time, the other ... Read More:

I'm afraid I have to agree with the earlier reviewer who said there is a fault with the DVD.
I have a 4:3 television and set my DVD player to letterbox. The film does not play in the correct aspect ratio, losing some of the picture at either side. Considering that one of the selling points of the 50th anniversary edition is that you get the entire original picture this is really disappointing. In addition, the picture appears to be somewhat squashed together so that the characters in the film appear far thinner then they should.
Initially I thought it was my DVD player causing the problems but I have no trouble with any of my other disks. After doing some research online at several other DVD review sites it appears that this ... Read More:

I am what you might call a Mamma Mia addict - I saw it five times at the cinema, and am just about to start watching the DVD for the second time since it arrived on Monday. There is a very good reason for it....the film is fantastic! So funny and light-hearted, and even though some of the singing is quite ropey, this only adds to the film's charm. Meryl Streep's rendition of "The Winner Takes It All" is incredible. If you never buy another DVD again, buy this one! (And the gift set with diary, pen and "surprise" is good too!)

I wish I would have waited for this dvd to go down to £4.99 because that is all it is worth! I bought the blu-ray which was a waste of money. It is fairly boring. It is the kind of film you watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon when you have nothing else to do. I thought I would laugh but very disappointed. My 12 year old liked it. Perhaps it is more suitable to young teens? Acting not worth remarking on, scenery nothing much and dancing laughable.

Full marks to Bussell and Jenkins for putting together and performing this high-quality and fun show, but boo-hiss for the camera operator and the editor for a barely adequate final product.
The camera work is somewhat frenetic, resting on a shot for only a few seconds. While this doesn't really detract from Katherine Jenkins' performance, where we concentrate on her voice, it completely fails for Darcey Bussell's dance, as it would for any ballet or modern dance.
And it's in fuzzy NTSC format, making the show look rather like something by Turner. As for the Extras! What were they recorded on? The images are too often smudged, as though they are compiled by imperfect predictive software.
This film follows the character of Mary Poppins the nanny who's practically perfect in every way. This timeless classic has magical and unforgettable songs for the whole family to enjoy. And this special 40th anniversary edition has some brilliant extras from a new short story with Julie Andrews, cut songs and a documentary of the making of the film.
This has rapidly become one of my favourite films of all time! Bloody Brilliant!
Johnny Depp and Helena Bohnam Carter are fantastic, I was wary of their singing to begin with, but soon you forget and are immersed in the story and I couldn't imagine anyone else in their roles.
The visual effects are amazing, I love the use of dark, dingy colours followed by the vibrant splash of scarlet blood splattered everywhere! If you are a bit scared of blood I would watch out, as it is quite graphic! It does have an 18 certificate for a reason!!
