This has rapidly become one of my favourite films of all time! Bloody Brilliant!
Johnny Depp and Helena Bohnam Carter are fantastic, I was wary of their singing to begin with, but soon you forget and are immersed in the story and I couldn't imagine anyone else in their roles. The visual effects are amazing, I love the use of dark, dingy colours followed by the vibrant splash of scarlet blood splattered everywhere! If you are a bit scared of blood I would watch out, as it is quite graphic! It does have an 18 certificate for a reason!! >>More Details |

imho, it's the things that other people hated about this film that made me love it:
the acting was believable. i think that i would make a whimpering noise if i suddenly found myself on the ground with a huge monster standing above me. the dialogue was believable. in real life people generally don't soliloquy like shakespeare, or describe ever innermost emotion, or philosophise or have great one-liners every minute - they usually just talk rubbish, like they do in this film. the script was believable. it was what you could reasonably expect to happen if a half-kilometer high monster invaded new york. there IS humour in the film, if you aren't po-faced. the direction was tight. ... I love my TV shows, I'm a big fan of PRISON BREAK, 24, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, SMALLVILLE, MY NAME IS EARL, LOST.
I'm always on the lookout for a new show, and I downloaded all three seasons of Supernatural after reading good things on it on IMDB. What happened though was I watched the first three episodes and straight away I loved it. I searched it up on Amazon and I couldn't believe the price. £28 for all three seasons! So I ordered it straight away. Watched most of this on C4. I'm not a BB fan. In fact as soon as the BB house came on i found myself wanting to turn over. I stuck it out for the zombie stuff but that was just as bad as the BB stuff. Lame characters, poor effects + BB. Not a good recipe for a horror program.
This was going to be the bit where I go on a rant about how bad Dead Set is but I just cant be bothred. Basically if your an fan of films like Dawn of the dead (both remake and original)or have to watch anything by Romero and if you class yourself as a true horror fan or hate BB then Dead Sets not for you. This is a brilliant film, up there with his "Pan's Labyrinth" and even better than "Devil's Backbone" which it in some ways resembles - a ghost story involving a children's home. A film about the fierce love between parent and child, which transcends death. I loved the bittersweet ending. It is not a horror film, so if you like horror movies, choose something else.

I heard about this after the American version was made this year so i bought it knowing it was in subtitles/spanish film. I was very impressed for many reasons especially the tense atmosphere and great camera work. The ending is brilliant and i would definately recommend it to all horror fans. Not far off a 5 star at all.

although having 6 episodes shorter than the previous 2 seasons...it is more than made up in the sheer quality of the episodes.
season 1 and 2 basically got the whole how set up and we all got the j hist of what was going on, the pace was fast yet it had never got the sheer spectacular standard that Buffy the Vampire Slayer set for all the shows in this genre. but Supernaturals' third outing is quite a remarkable one which can be extremely scary one moment and then utterly camp the next. this season has made me a dedicated fan...yes the first 2 need to be seen first but here is where everything kicks off. all 17 episodes are on top form. also contains 3 of the greatest episodes ever-A Very Supernatural Christmas,Just In Bello ... Firstly, let me say that I am an enormous Stephen King fan. I am currently re-reading his back catalogue and I believe his skills at characterisation and character-driven plots are unsurpassed and that some of his books have been made into fantastic films (The Green Mile anyone?) However, this was not one of them.
The lack of excitement and pace were palpable almost from the offset and sadly not helped by the wooden acting of most of the characters. I wouldn't have even minded it not being scary if it had effectively shown the breakdown of different people and personalities, but i didn't feel that this was explored with enough power to make you actually empathise with any of the characters. Saw IV starts off where the last one finished. More of the same really - nothing different to the other films. I was bored watching this film and I found the constant flashbacks a bit confusing.
