New characters joining an existing programme can prove a problem. There is the worry that they will not fit in or that the dynamic of the show will be somehow diminished - so full marks to former rapper Ice-T for his blistering portrayal of super cool, street wise Detective Fin Tutuola, transferred into the existing team from Vice and teamed with the thrice married, cynical, witty and embittered John Munch (Richard Belzer). A double act made in heaven they spark off each other perfectly - sample dialogue;
Munch "Come on, you must have some dark secret?"
Fin (deadpan) "I'm a Republican".
The team of Benson and Stabler - single girl and married family man - continues to lead the investigative group, but other ... Read More:

The second season of L&O SVU reached to the sky - well, the third did even better. It went to the orbit and started to beep. It is not an exaggeration. This is one of the toughest, most accurate and best interpreted cop series and its third season it purely unbelievable. If you are not yet familiar with the concept of Special Victims here is the definition of the competence of this elite squad:
Any child under 13 years of age who is the victim of any sex crime or attempted sex crime.
Any child under 11 years of age who is the victim of abuse by a parent or person legally responsible for the care of the child.
Any victim of rape (all degrees) or attempted rape (all degrees)
Any victim of Criminal Sexual Act (all degrees) ... Read More:

Personally, 'Law and Order SVU' is a lot better than the original
'Law and Order'. Instead of spending half of the show with cops and the second half with Attorneys, SVU spends all 40 minutes focusing on the special victims unit, made up of Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni),
Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek), who you may have seen in early seasons of the original 'Law and Order'. This season contains 22 episodes, most as good as each other, also featuring a cliff-hanger finale, this season is well worth your money.

SVU season five has got to be my favourite season by far!
I got it on it's release date and it took me only one week to watch!
This season, we experience a few major changes to the show, the first being the depature of ADA Alexandra Cabot (who is suberbly written out in ep.4 "Loss", which is one of my favourite ever episodes!), and the introduction of ADA Casey Novak (Diane Neal), who is introduced in ep.5, and has proved to be as good, if not better, an ADA than her preceder.
This season is 10/10, no episode isn't worth watching and this is a must buy to all fans!
P.S. Incase some people are wondering, there are no subtitles (but all scenes are quite clear and easy to understand. Don't worry!)

Law & Order, to quote Chris Noth as Detective Mike Logan, "really frosts my cookies". I'm not actually sure what that means, but it sounds good. This is the first series of Dick Wolf's seminal cops 'n' lawyers show, now on it's umpteenth series. L&O has never and will never jump the shark, as long as the writing is so damn good. A constant changing of the cast places the emphasis most definitely on stories, not stars, although that's not to say the acting isn't consistently brilliant as well.
In Series One the cops are cocky, handsome Logan, who has a penchant for wearing terrible tartan ties, and weary, middle-aged, doughnut-munching Sergeant Max Greevey (George Dzundza), plus sarcastic Captain ... Read More:

...but they'll have to, or this wouldn't be a very good review.
The previous three seasons of SVU have been great, yes. But season 4 just takes the show to a new level. With 25 episodes this year, instead of previous 22, 23 or 21. Every episode is as good as each other, this DVD is a must buy, trust me!

Criminal Intent elevates crime drama to a new level.
The stories are rich and complex, pulling the viewer into the story. Its backed up with engaging bad guys, developed characters compared to the cardboard cut outs you find in other shows. This is the real strength of CI, the battle of wits between D'Onofrio/Erbe and the complex, flawed but human criminals they pursue. D'Onofrio is hypnotically good, Erbe is understated and subtle, balancing each other with dynamic chemistry.
Each episode is rich in detail, brilliantly acted and full of biting realism. All of the cast are superb, there are no weak links...
Furthermore, there's no average episodes in the boxset, each is a mini masterpiece, you will feel spoilt after watching it.

Another fine example of why Law and Order is one of, if not, the best crime program ever made. The final episode bids the sad farewell of ADA Ben Stone who, in my opinion, is one of the best characters who ever appeared in the show. A couple episodes seemed to be a bit dull but there are quite a few that shine out such as 'Breeder'.
I have just purchased both series and was very disappointed to see that the Second series does not have subtitles,an awful lot of these American programmes need these for other parts of the world..R Naish...
