This is an excellent, thoroughly enjoyable 'Midsomer Murders' set. The first ones (based on the Caroline Graham books) are particularly good. Barnaby and Troy make a great team and the guest casts are uniformly superb.

This is another excellent collection of 'Midsomer Murders' episodes. All the episodes are enjoyable; amongst the best are 'Judgement Day' with its disturbing opening sequence, 'Destroying Angel' and the subtle 'Blue Herrings' which features a particularly moving performance from the talented Angela Down. Oh, and don't worry if you can't follow the explanation for one of the murders in 'The Electric Vendetta' - apparently, the programme-makers edited it out by mistake!

I too am not sure that complaints about lack of subtitles etc are really pertinent. That said, I didn't think this one was quite up to the standard of previous boxsets. As well as a few uninspired plots, there's also some lazy writing, exemplified by the careless, unsatisfactory explanation for the change of Barnaby's sidekick part-way through the set. On the whole, though, still fun to watch.

Surely reviewers such as Edna Sweetlove must realise that people actually considering purchasing DVD's of series such as Midsomer have, actually, already seen an episode (...or six...) on the box and, therefore, realise what level of disbelief suspension is required!
Midsomer is not about realism, it's about the creation of a quintissentially English stage, set with quintissentially English characters. The fact that this stageset has probably never actually existed has nothing at all to do with anything!
The creation of Midsomer is a resounding success (...how many series...?) and everyone who loves a gentle, non-gory whodunnit, wants to spend a week there (...preferably not as a victim...!) to take in the beautiful scenery, the ... Read More:

This five disk set contains four Midsomer Murders which were all originally broadcast during the Christmas period. Also included is the Super Sluths documentary which features interviews with cast and crew as well as Caroline Graham who originally wrote the Inspector Barnaby books. This documentary is only available on the Amazon exclusive release and is well worth paying a few pounds more for.
The selection of episodes is excellent and includes one of my all time favourites Death Of A Stranger. The other episodes are A Talent For Life, Ghosts Of Christmas Past and Shot At Dawn. Guest stars in these episodes include James Bolam (New Tricks), George Cole (Minder), Richard Johnson (Zombie Flesh Eaters) and many more.
What a disapointment - not a lot of christmas episodes. Only one edisode with christmas in it. I think there must be more than one christmas episodes made - why nok put them all in the Christmas collection?

Absolutely WONDERFUL entertainment. Worth the expense to own all these great tv MIDSOMERS MURDER movies. Can watch over and over.
Wish continued success and many more fine DCI BARNABY cases solved.

The four episodes in this set are all available elsewhere but it's nevertheless a highly enjoyable selection of four strong stories. Of the four, 'Judgement Day' has a genuinely creepy opening sequence, 'Destroying Angel' features an especially nasty, prolonged murder method for one of the victims, 'Dead in the Water'(set against the background of Midsomer (actually, Henley) Regatta) has very pretty locations, even for Midsomer, and some particularly amusing byplay between Barnaby and Sergeant Scott, while 'Orchis Fatalis' features a notably entertaining supporting cast of Midsomer eccentrics. Morever, unlike the so-called 'Christmas Collection', where only one episode justifies the collection's title, this Summer Collection lives up to its name. ... Read More:
