Monk - still crazy after all these seasons. And, let's face it, there have been two or three too many. Bitty Schram's sudden departure (apparently because she was paid less than everyone else) midway through season three ripped the heart out of the show, and the basic dynamics between the central characters have never worked since. Traylor "Trash" Howard (probably not her real nickname) just doesn't compare.

Season six is fine, just as adequate as the previous two. There are some decent celebrity cameos from Sarah Silverman (reprising her role as Adrian's obsessed number one fan), Snoop Dogg (yes, Snoop Dogg) and Alfred Molina. There's also a little bit of long-awaited progress in the overarching plot. But there's far too ... Read More:

After what was a disapointing 4th series with practically no advancement in the Trudi case it was good to see some mentions of her death again in the first few episodes. Having said that though it appeared that the case still has'nt moved on an inch from where it was left in series 2?
What worries me is that Monk can't last forever as a series, would'nt it be better to rap all this up before it's pushed out unfinished or the main stars get tired and we end up with some sort of bodge together job like the Dukes Of Hazzard turned into or the X Files (i mean, did anyone actually make it to the last series let alone and be interested?)
Anyway, overall it was an excellent series. I laughed a lot, which I think is good but have to say I also ... Read More:

Back in the 1970s, every TV cop had to have either an eccentricity or an illness - Ironsides was in a wheelchair, Longstreet was blind, McCloud was a cowboy, Mannix was building a house, Hopkirk was dead. 'Monk'. about a 'tec with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, can be read as a homage to shows of that era: As such the emphasis is on sleuthing and human interaction rather than violence, making for the kind of relaxing, Sunday afternoon sort of show that hasn't been seen on the screen since 'NYPD Blue' started the trend for more realistic cop dramas. Whilst it's not the most exciting show in the world, and the humour is the sort usually described as 'gentle', Monk can be recommended to anyone who has ever enjoyed curling up on the sofa with a mug of ... I first saw this when it was first aired one saturday (can't remember exactly what year it started, time goes so fast) on BBC2 just because I thought the idea of a former detective with obsessive compulsive disorder sounded interesting but I didn't expect it to be this good, from that very first screening I was hooked although I have to say I get very angry at the way the BBC treats this programme. One week they show it, next week they don't, one week they show it, next two weeks they don't etc. This really gets me angry because they always make some excuse about not being able to fit it into their schedule but isn't it amazing how they never fail to be able to show a repeat of some quiz, lifestyle, learning, cooking, gardening, house buying, living in another country ... Monk is the surname of former member of the police force, Adrian Monk. After a bomb assasination against his wife Trudy, he barely goes out of his house for over three years. His colleagues from the police force insistingly employ his superior observing powers when they can not solve a case. Monk can not look after himself as he is morally wounded so a nurse always helps him during daytime. Sharona takes good care of him though Monk does not appreciate her helps accordingly.

I found out the Monk series quite by chance and became an addict instantly. His peculiar behaviours complemented with amusing events weaved together with a murderous atmosphere grips me. His observing qualities remind me of the great Sherlock Holmes.Of course his daily routine is much ... Read More:

At the end of the day, the story of Adrian Monk is the tale of a sad and pitiful man who is utterly trapped at the moment of his wife's death; too guilty to live and too scared to die.

Four years before the first episode, Adrian Monk was one of the best Detectives in the San Francisco Police Department, and he was married to the love of his life.

Being a cop and being married to Trudy were the two pillars of Monk's existence. And so when Trudy was killed by a car bomb, Monk was so emotionally crippled and convinced that the bomb was meant for him that he slumped into a catatonic depression and didn't leave his house for three years.

A few months before the first episode however, Monk's old captain hires a nurse named Sharrona to take care ... Read More:

This boxset is such a bargain - at this price for 5 seasons who can complain?
As a series it is very entertaining with some interesting characters that you become familiar with during the 5 seasons, Monk's detective genius coupled with/ hampered by his obsessive disorder makes for a believable character. I personally wasn't aware of poor picture quality when I watched this but then perhaps the more discerning who have something to compare this series with are able to make a more critical judgement....
In short: a very enjoyable series....and season 6 is out !

Season five of Monk continues to bring us the cases and struggles of Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) as he struggles to solve crimes despite his OCD and many phobias. This season finds Monk facing new issues in the same old way.

When the city garbage workers go on strike, it's up to Monk to solve a murder to get everything cleaned up. His assistant Natalie (Traylor Howard) convinces Monk to strike out on his own and open a private eye business. Monk's 25 year class reunion at Berkley involves a painful stroll down memory lane and the murder of a nurse. When Captain Stottlemeyer's (Ted Levine) son skips school to attend a rock concert, Monk finds a dead man in an outhouse. And in a "Wings" reunion, Steven Weber plays a shock jock that may have killed his wife. He just ... Read More:
