By now you will have read that this is one of the most fantastic animations of all time.
However, may I suggest that you do your utmost to purchase the original Japanese version and watch it with subtitles, rather than with the silly dubbed American voices.
It takes on a whole new character watching it in the original Japanese.

Don't be fooled into thinking that cartoon movies = kiddie entertainment only. Princess Mononoke is my 8 yr-old son's favourite anime film (with Spirited Away a close second) but be warned, it's got some gore!
As the virus attacks the Prince's system, it invests him with amazing strength - and his arrows can take off arms and heads. Not always at a distance either! These scenes are not frequent.
I've been trying to put my finger on what Western viewers find unusual about these Japanese films and I think that it is the ambiguity about good and evil. We like our goodies to be good and our baddies to be bad, but in PM it is more complicated than that - just like in real life! For example - the Forest God not only gives life, ... Read More:

This is a lovely animated film, a million miles away from the butt-kicking gore-fest that is the usual Manga fare.
The story is about a girl who discovers she can move through time after avoiding a collision at a level crossing that would have resulted in her death. She uses this power to fix things in her past, but soon learns that the consequences of her "fixes" are far from good.
The story's mix of teen love with heavier subject matter doesn't always work, but generally this film does a good job throughout. The only realy criticism is that the ending is drawn out a little too long after the revelation of how the time-travel gift is obtained. It was one false ending away from me not really caring anymore! As it was, though, ... Read More:

This anime classic explores the familiar ecological theme often found in such Ghibli works as Princess Mononoke.
This an engaging film which might not appeal to younger audiences due to the complex story, and the giant scary insects (which again are reminiscent of the giant forest spirits in Princess Mononoke).
In a world of warring civilisations clinging on to the few natural resources available due to the years of constant pollution, a plan to resurrect an ancient force and change the world results in a battle to protect the future of the planet. This is a pretty involved story and isn't one to be casually watched whilst doing the housework or checking your e-mails. The main characters are strong and as with most of Miyazaki's work there ... This is another Hayao Miyazaki masterpiece. As with his other films, the strength is in the story and the storytelling. Even though this supposed to be a children film, it has a strong appeal to adults, with the intrigue of the power play between the characters and people are not what they first appear. There is the additional puzzle if you want to work out who's providing the voice for the villain, it's Mark Hamill. Always wondered what he did after playing Luke Skywalker! The only downside and why it might not appeal to some is that the animation is a bit dated, it doesn't have the bright pizzazz of some of the more modern Pixar, Disney or Dreamwork animation, but well worth taking the time to watch.

I am a pretty big fan of Studio Ghibli, so my review might be slightly biased to those of you who aren't. After I heard that Christian Bale provided the voice of Howl for this film (after seeing him in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, two of my all-time favourite films) I really wanted to see Howl's Moving Castle, and my God it's fantastic!
I'll try to keep this short and spoiler-free. This is SUCH a beautiful film, with spectacular animation (as we always get from Ghibli) and a sweet, sad story with a happy ending (the ending is so beautiful, it always makes me cry!) and fantastic characters (Christian Bale and Billy Crystal really stand out as voice actors who contribute to their characters enormously).
Studio Ghibli has built quite a reputation over the years as being one of the foremost delivers of Anime. Even in small Denmark Ghibli's movies have succeeded in entertaining the audience and now anime/manga is not as alien as it once was. Globalization has taken its turns and thank god for that. Ghibli has delivered yet another sweet and enjoyable movie that is far from the and maybe even above the average Hollywood movie. Whisper of the heart tells the story of the female protagonist Shizuku who studies at junior high school and reads a lot of books, which she borrows from the school library. After a while she recognizes that the same person has borrowed the same books, she borrows before her, and she intends to find out who this person is. After a while she meets with the person and they eventually ... Read More:
