I didnt know alot about this film when i bought the dvd, it was just a chance purchase, but i am so glad i bought this, it had my attention from the very first minute. The story introduces us to a place called wall, which is reached through a gap in a wall from our world. we follow the young man tristan as he tries to bring back a fallen star(claire danes) to his supposed love(sienna miller). we also find that the star was knocked out of the sky by a necklace which is being sought by the heirs to the throne of wall as the one who finds it will become king, then to add even more to this story, three witches want the fallen star aswell, as her heart will give them their youth back. There are several great characters in the film, robert de niro ... Read More:

This film was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Original, quirky, violent yet wickedly funny and shows off Bruges quite beautifully.
Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes I knew, but couldn't quite place Brendan Gleeson at first - then it dawned on me - he was Mad-Eye Moody from Harry Potter IV, and then Fleur from the same film turns up as 'the girl'! The casting was quite brilliant; all of the stars turn in great performances, and the plot was fantastic with a superb ending.
I would recommend this film to all grown-ups except perhaps my mother, who will find there's just too much swearing for her sensibilities to cope with. Talking of cursing, you must watch the last of the extras - it's effing hilarious!

This modern attempt at adapting this classic book into film is not a good one. When compared to other classic book-to-film adaptations of classic fanatasy (ie. Lord of the Rings and Stardust) this falls well short of standard set by previous fantasy movies. In contrast, Narnia appears cheap with inferior acting, poor casting, bad direction, cheap looking sets and generally poorly produced.
Narnia is not a terrible movie and you'll find your children enjoying it ..... but unlike other fantasy films like stardust and LOTR ,this isnt really enjoyable for adults.
This film seems like a knee-jerk reaction to the success of 'the Lord of the Rings' trilogy, but sadly falls well short of the high standard set by Peter Jackson's ... Read More:

After the abismal qualitynof this show on Freeview i,e audibility very very bad and Virgin too stingy to provide sub titles ,I almost gave up on buimg this.
IT IS FANTASTIC it pickls up both story /tempo amd quality from term2
all the performances are spot on and 'Sarah'is a perfect continuation of the Linda Hamilton perf.-not easy for me as I adore Linda H in everything she does.
I strongly suggest that you give series two a miss and await the gvgs unless they get their act together by either indulging in a real sound engineer and sub titles
get this and enjoy

I will generously give this two stars because the production values are high - easy though with a 100 million dollar budget....
The core values, plot, pacing and structure are a mess!
I didn't like the first movie BUT I really enjoyed Dead Mans Chest with it's better and bigger setpieces. This, however, is a dissapointment and it's way, way too long!
What happened to The Kraken? One of the best elements of Dead Mans Chest is dealt with in a couple of sentences and a single VERY brief post-mortem scene. If you really enjoyed the cephalopodical attacks of the previous film then you are going to be very let down here!
It's not as if the film even offers us a better and bigger monster - all you get here is an enormous whirlpool and a 50 foot woman/sea ... Read More:

The starting point of the original series was that a structural engineer was going to break his death row brother out of prison by getting sent to prison himself and then using his tatoos, and his work helping the prison governor construct a matchstick model of the Taj Mahal, to tunnel out of a maximum security prison and get to Panama. Naturally, the brother was the victim of a vast conspiracy on the part of the shadowy forces controlling America, a conspiracy which boiled down to giving the vice president's brother a nice house and a set of false teeth.
So far, so not exactly cinema verite.
Some viewers have obviously felt that season 3 was stretching the plausibility of the story. This doesn't do justice to the wild implausibility of what has come before. ... Read More:

When first dragged by my wife to see the cinema releases of the three films, years ago, I went like a snail unwillingly but really enjoyed them. Since then, we acquired the VHS versions of the same and watched them about once annually. This extended version, however, is so much better, fleshing out some of the characters and some of the story-line.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was once called, by a German friend of mine (who never saw it!), "poor man's Wagner" and it is true that there are elements of the "Ring of the Nibelungen" in Tolkien's epic tale (which, perhaps, was why Jewish groups apparently attacked the first of these films on release, Wagner having believed that Jews were trying to dominate the world by the money power). Some elements are obviously similar (the ... Read More:

This film is told from 8 people's point of view over the same time period. Its cleverly done, rewinding after each segment and switching views, each time adding a bit more story with twists and turns. The final person then cranks the action right up and brings the whole story to conclusion.
You seem to spend ages for the film to start as it keeps rewinding frequently at the beginning, but towards the end it does unfold much more of the story and adds in quite a bit of action.
