I just loved series No 2. It seems that with the characters the whole series has matured. And that in a very positive sense. It is still very entertaing and beautiful to look at. The acting is much more ion the forfront (compared to the mere naked pleasures of series no 1). All in all, it seems to be much more acturate and historically valuable (even tough I beliebe that Jane Seymour is a bit too gorgeous) Jonathan Rhys Meyers performance is superb. I've read many novels and biographies on the life and relationships of Henry VIII and if I wanted a historically accurate potrayal of the life of the late king I'm sure I could find hundreds at my disposal but let's be honest they can be deadly dull!! This series does not claim to be an accurate account of the life of Henry VIII, it advertises itself clearly as a drama and a very steamy one at that. Also if you think about it for a woman to yield so much sexual power over a king that he would break from the Catholic Church, putting his monarchy and country at thread just in order to bed her she had to be pretty alluring and well worth the wait - so justifiably for me the sexual content in the show makes sense. I'm going to be a little more critical than the past few reviews. Camerawork : Fantastic (particularly the opening shot). Wonderful framing and wide landscape shots. And the sets and costumes stay true to the intended time. I am however sceptical of the cinematography as I feel a lot of the beauty in the shots has more to do with the land itself than the brilliance of the photography. This is by no means to the stunning standard of Baraka or Laurence of Arabia, both of which have the available scenery but still rely massively on the artistry of the photography. This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest and most heartwrenchingly moving films i have ever seen. Spielberg lends his mastery of filmmaking to do great justice to the true story of Oskar Shindler, a memer of the Nazi party who saved more than 11 thousand jews during the holocaust and the suffering of the jews during the second world war. Staring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes this 3 hour film, with the help of beautiful cinematography and skillful acting, draws the audience into its bosom and rewards them for putting this time aside to watch it. Season 2 of HBOs excellent 'Rome' continues on exactly were the first season finished. Caesar has been assasinated and the subsequent power struggle once again sets Rome towards civil war. Mark Antony and Octavian must fight for survival and they try to bide for time until they can extract revenge. Once again the acting is hugely impressive and the characters are all deep, complex and highly enjoyable. This is a wonderfull production and its hard to find a better television series. Its not for the faint hearted, there is plenty of blood, sex and violence for the more timid of us to shy away from ..... but if, like me, you like your drama's gritty and realistic then this is for you. I first saw this film in the cinema, and am so glad it is now out on DVD. As a big fan of war films, Female Agents is easily the best of this year, with cracking performances from all the main leads, especially Sophie Marceau. Set in 1944 during World War II, the film tells the story of four women resistance fighter given the mission to rescue a British geologist. Based on a true story, the action rarely lets up with a fantastic script complemented by gorgeous cinematography. Watch out for the subway scene - it's a classic! >>More Details

This period--from the rise of Caesar to his assassination--is an absorbing one, with a cast of extraordinary characters, and the series does it proud. 'Rome' is an instantly gripping, absorbing series with a completely convincing recreation of ancient Roman life and manners(and pretty shocking they are, too, in many instances!) The acting is superb, the settings magnificent, the music haunting, and there is no attempt to modernise the attitudes of the time. The portrayal of Roman religion is also done very, very well. This is Rome both familiar and very strange. And yes, it's very graphic, in all sorts of ways, but then, those weren't compassionate or modest times. Very highly recommended. >>More Details

I was a teen ager when this film first played in a theater in Cleveland, Ohio, and I must have gone to see it four or five times until my Mother forbid me to go and see it again. This fantastic Blu Ray DVD has brought it all back in amazing detail. Every action, every stabbing weapon, every grimace, every drop of sweat is fantastically caught in this new digital print. In 44 years this film has only gotten better, and it was breathtaking to begin with. If you purchase nothing else on Blu Ray DVD this year purchase this. Thank you so much for offering it again.
