this is a superb series....i was guided onto the first series by all the reviews and their fulsome praise. like most viewers i was conditioned to episodic series....a beginning a middle and an end ...so when the first episode finished without a solution i was annoyed.....the second episode followed the same format and i realised this was a marathon....not a sprint.....but ,by then i was gripped....i had to restrain my finger from pushing the 'fast forward 'button......watched it all the way thro' in one go....it is a thinking person's series....since then i have puchased series 2 and 3....SUPERB SUPERB SUPERB........

Not much can be said that hasnt already been said about season two of the wire, all the superlatives in the world have been used to describe this series, some of course will argue that this isnt as good as season one,i can say for the record that its as good if not better.
This time the drama unfolds in the dockland area of baltimore and involves murder, corruption, greed and much more, this is tense and cagey tv at its very best, laced with a bit more humour than series one but with a snarling attitude being prominent.
The usual band of characters return and we are introduced to new characters who play such an important part in this show,i certainly wont give anymore away but this is brilliant and thats all i have to really say on the issue.

Having watched the first three series, I would say that this one is my favourite and series 2 is my least favourite (although still worthy of five stars). Having said that, without a lot of important build up in series 2, especially within the Barksdale empire, series 3 couldn't have had the same impact. On a general note, and this applies to all the series, the viewing experience is extraordinary and I think a lot of that is down to the fact that we've been blessed with so many hours with these characters. A particular standout scene for me was when McNulty confronts D'Angelo's mother. Amazing acting, with the emotional force that only plot markers planted long before can create. Just watched the first 3 episodes of series 4, and if it stays on the ... Read More:

King Henry 8 was a fair-haired, strapping 6'4" tall and powerfully built man ..... but in this poor TV drama series he has changed to a short, dark haired, weasel faced character that just doesnt convince. I tried so hard to like this historical drama, but just couldnt.
Hammy acting, poorly written and truely terrible casting ... thats all I have to say on this deeply disapointing period drama.

A film which requires the viewer to work for their emotional gratification is doomed to fail. My heart strings were left irritatingly unplucked due to the essentially teniuous nature of the story.
Atonement cleverly gives us the opportunity to see different interpretions of a situation. And then asks us to embrace its difficult theme.
The great and the good have hailed Atonement a masterpiece, I wonder if those people have watched enough movies.
The Shakespearean premise has been done better, the actors and script fail to compensate for a weak story, the photography interesting but.... and my lasting memory, disappointment.
Sorry, I can't join the happy throng on this one

A truly magical comical fantasy adventure for all the family. Gaiman's fairy tale has been realised beautifully for the screen and features an all-star cast that goes all the way down into some of the smallest parts. The only one who jars for me is Ricky Gervais. Mark Williamson as a goat turned into a man is a piece of genius, Mark Strong is a brooding and murderous prince, and it is a delight to see De Niro and Pfeiffer having such fun playing against type. Claire Danes is an unconventional leading lady, but has that look of big-eyed wonder that wins you over as she did playing Juliet.
The story is an episodic fantasy quest that has laughs, both belly and more subtle chuckles, aplenty and some great running gags. There are great fights and there is also ... Read More:

I love rom-coms. I loved The Devil Wears Prada (even though I got blackmailed into seeing it, when I did I found it to be very good indeed. And I love Katherine Heigl. I think she is fantastically talented. It is for these reasons that I was looking forward to McKenna's newly penned work 27 Dresses. Unfortunately in spite of Heigl's best efforts this film frustrates more than it pleases. Marsden is solid, but the depth of his character isn't. The dialogue is snappy to begin with but when it comes to any emotional depth it seems that the fast forward button is pressed. We never really understand why Heigl's character eventually falls for Marsden's after so much verbal sniping and the 'explanatory' scene is patronising and hideously contrived. Heigl is superb, though, ... Read More:

Obviously designed for the younger generation, Step Up 2: The Streets is a well choreographed and fast paced movie that has less of the drama of the first, but a lot more of the message, 'It's not what you have, it's what you make of what you have'.
The storyline was lacking a lot after the first, but I found the dancing and the rawness of this film a lot better than the first.
It seems a lot less polished than the first also (Perhaps due to style of dance or new directing), but nethertheless it's a good film.
The dance scene at the end was truly something and much better than anything in Step Up, although the rain involved played a big part im this.
Overall, Storyline, a lot more basic than first but dance scenes a lot better ... Read More:

This modern attempt at adapting this classic book into film is not a good one. When compared to other classic book-to-film adaptations of classic fanatasy (ie. Lord of the Rings and Stardust) this falls well short of standard set by previous fantasy movies. In contrast, Narnia appears cheap with inferior acting, poor casting, bad direction, cheap looking sets and generally poorly produced.
Narnia is not a terrible movie and you'll find your children enjoying it ..... but unlike other fantasy films like stardust and LOTR ,this isnt really enjoyable for adults.
This film seems like a knee-jerk reaction to the success of 'the Lord of the Rings' trilogy, but sadly falls well short of the high standard set by Peter Jackson's adaptation of Tolkiens work. ... Read More:
