OK, this is a fine, brave movie, and I am all for a bit of thought and effort going into a blockbuster, but all the eulogising over Ledgers performance is not only over the top, but does the film a great disservice. Is Nolan's vision what Bob Kane envisaged when he created Batman, not anywhere close. Is it a good screen representation of where the character has been going since Miller re-vamped him for the grunge-geek generation? Yes.
Ledger plays the Joker essentialy the way Brad Dourif has been playing crazy people for nearly 30 years. The mannerisms, the voice, its all there, and is a competent impersonation of an underated and little known actor. I've read many novels and biographies on the life and relationships of Henry VIII and if I wanted a historically accurate potrayal of the life of the late king I'm sure I could find hundreds at my disposal but let's be honest they can be deadly dull!!
This series does not claim to be an accurate account of the life of Henry VIII, it advertises itself clearly as a drama and a very steamy one at that. Also if you think about it for a woman to yield so much sexual power over a king that he would break from the Catholic Church, putting his monarchy and country at thread just in order to bed her she had to be pretty alluring and well worth the wait - so justifiably for me the sexual content in the show makes sense. I was looking forward to this movie, this was one of the iconic books from my childhood. I have to say that I very much enjoyed it, however maybe not as much as the first film. The filming was excellent, with beautiful backdrops and surroundings, very good CGI and good acting. It's been so long since I read the books however, that I can't remember if this was faithful to the original though... will have to re-read them I think! The things that let it down for me were the comedy elements, the mouse-knights and alike fitted very much with a Disney film, however I thought that they were not necessary, and detracted from the story. Due to so many varied reviews on Amazon about the individual DVD's in the series,I will limit my comments just to say that this box set represents superb family entertainment whatever your age and is possibly one of the best value box sets around.
As family viewing goes,it will keep the kids quiet for hours but the individual films are lengthy so spread your viewing over a couple of weekends to prevent over doing it.The movies themselves are great fun and with so many gruesome characters, make sure the more nervous ones in your family who are old enough to watch have someone to snuggle up to,just in case. Enjoyable, mindless, and very funny. Downey Jr. was surprisingly brilliant. Little plot or real substance but who cares, just fun hokum and the best film I've seen for a while. Recommended.

This was one of the most unimaginative, derivative and just plain boring films I've ever had to sit through. It tries to be a cross between a Dan Brown thriller and an Indiana Jones film and merely succeeds in reminding the viewer how superior those two genres are. The acting is terrible too. The new Indiana Jones film is 100 times better than this. Avoid!

this is one of the best films ive seen all year....for the people that have only voted this 3 stars or less...has problems. the effects are amazing and the storyline is good, i ave watched it twice in 2 weeks because its that good.

This is an amazing film, top notch i have seen all of the trilogy and this film is possibly the best, ignore any one who has rated this 1 star and has said they have only watched 30min of it, the film goes on for awhile but that makes it all the better in my opinion, the cast is amazing as always with even more new characters, the effects are quality and has a great story, i strongly recomend this to any one who loves the other two films and has not watched this film yet, and to any film lover, because i think any one can enjoy this, but would be an easier watch if the first two films were watched first, but this is one of the best trilogy's ever made, if not the best.

Before you waste your money on this I suggest that you read the reviews for the DVD version. They say it all. An HD version of rubbish is still rubbish no matter how clear the image.
