the fact that the wire is a show that so few people have actually seen is criminal but completely unsurprising in this age of dumbed down entertain ment and reality tv shows. this is an exceptional, intelligent piece of work that should have reached a wide audience.
it's not the most action packed show you'll ever see, but the quality of the writing and acting is simply superb, and sadly, the best way to see this superb criminally underrated show is on dvd or late at night on fx. it is bleak, very bleak. no happy endings here, but the fact that the wire has managed to last 5 seasons is something of a miracle. this superb show is hardly seen, yet complete drivel like american idol, big brother, i'm a celebrity get me out of here and all ... I had heard some bad things about this season of Smallville from various people but personally I found this seventh season of the show to be greatly entertaining and definitely the best season so far. The main addition for this season is the introduction of Kara Zor-El, Clark's cousin and future Supergirl. This season also sees the introduction of Black Canary as well as seeing the return of Green Arrow, Bizarro and Brainiac. The season itself is a lot more story driven than some of the previous seasons, with far fewer stand alone episodes.
The CGI in this season is good even if it is slightly ropey in a couple of episodes and the acting on show is the usual mixture of hammy and great. Having said this, the writing is generally ... Read More:

It will stand the test of time as amongst the finest situation comedy released by the BBc.
The last episode made now over 31 years ago see the story devised by Jimmy Perry and David Croft about a group of aged Civil Defence Home Guard in a fictional seaside town on the Sussex coast of Walmington on Sea.
Great Shakesperian actor Frank Laurie surprisingly accepted the role of Private Fraser at the grand old age of 73.He with prabably John le Mesurer were famous actors and big stars in their own right when Ian lavander fresh out of acting school was cast as Private Pike who really was David Croft in all but name.
Arthur Lowe the pompous bank manager made Capt Mainwaring a hosehold name.
I have to admit - as much as I love this show, somewhere around the middle of Season 3 I was wondering how long the House team could keep it going at the same quality. Although the personal lives of the team are ever in flux, at the heart of each House episode is the same structure. Mysterious case that gets wrongly diagnosed a number of times while House is derisive, Foreman is annoyed, Chase is belittled and Cameron's heart bleeds all over the joint. It's funny, but after a while that same formula was bound to run out of juice.
So when I saw that the team had all been fired or resigned at the end of the Season, I saw that the writers were way ahead of me and I was intrigued. The result is the most ridiculous and arbitrary kind of candidate testing that only ... Read More:

I thought these episodes were better than most of series 1 and 2, generally more interesting. Exception: The rock star child kidnap episode was truly dreadful.
Rupert Penry-Jones as Adam Carter is ; in my opinion, better than Mat MacFadayen ever was.

I just loved series No 2. It seems that with the characters the whole series has matured. And that in a very positive sense. It is still very entertaing and beautiful to look at. The acting is much more ion the forfront (compared to the mere naked pleasures of series no 1). All in all, it seems to be much more acturate and historically valuable (even tough I beliebe that Jane Seymour is a bit too gorgeous) Jonathan Rhys Meyers performance is superb. It was worthwhile seeing this series. Enjoy!!

Well, it's a tribute to "Lewis" that it is even mentioned in the same breath as "Morse". Some might cavil at the apparent superficiality of Lewis compared to the operatic deep-thinking Morse, but Lewis has great integrity and humanity and - after all - he is still wet behind the ears compared to his Mentor. There are the same well-thought-out plots, the same magnificent settings. As an expat I love to see these wonderful views of England in this context. And Hathaway is brilliantly-cast - as good a sidekick as Lewis was to Morse. Don't these producers choose such wonderful supporting actors? No, "Morse" it isn't, but none the worse for that. It is Ryan Giggs to George Best; different, and possibly not quite up to the original, but damned good entertainment for all that ....

Richard presents this interactive DVD which is quite short, but quite fun. With two 5 minute clips, the stunts are a bit low. The stunts are blowing up vans (Interactive), trying to make a car fly, bungee jumping with caravans (Interactive), and a race between a bowler wildcat and a motorbike. There are seven rounds. 'One white van man and his dog', where you have to blow up 2-4 out of 5 vans, while trying to avoid Richard and his dog. '30 years of top gear' is where you are shown a clip of top gear and you have to answer what year that clip was from. Other rounds are 'Dashboard Difference', 'Bunch of stunts', 'Cara bungee' and 'Golden Anorak'. The two 5 minute clips come in between 'Dashboard Difference' and before 'Cara bungee'. You can either play on your own as 'Billy no mates' or with other players ... Read More:

Well worth buying. After getting off to a shaky start (the first episode is very dodgy in places) it continued to improve every week. Glad I stuck with it as every episode is a thrill to watch.

To be fair this is more of a composite review for series 3-5. I tend to agree with the reviewers who felt the series fell flat in series 3 (with the exception of the cliff hanger carried over from series 2). Things start to pick up in series 4 with the series 3 cliff hanger carry over. There is however, one episode where Adam goes under cover as a Syrian (speaking English with an Arab accent) that simply doesn't work.
In an earlier review I commented on how characters fell off the series, with a much greater frequency relative to American television. I have changed my stance and have gotten behind this as a useful maneuver to keep the series fresh.
In summation:
Series 3 = 3*
Series 4 (though the final 2 episodes) = 4*-4 1/2*
