Ichigo is a regular everyday school kid, however he has the ability to see ghosts. After an encounter with the soul reaper Rukia, Ichigo obtains Soul Reaper powers to send lost souls (known as wholes) to the soul society or to destroy evil souls (known as hollows).
I have owned this series 1 box set for some time, however it is only recently that I have been able to get into it. The main reason for this is the sheer amount of characters in the story. Things really pick up pace in Bleach season 2 as it excels in everything that made the firsts series great. Ichigo and his friends have infiltrated the soul society and with the goal of rescuing the soul Reaper Rukia. After the events of the previous series, Rukia is being held captive by her fellow soul Reapers and is condemned to die. Her crime - giving Ichigo Kurosaki her soul Reaper powers and therefore betraying the rules of the soul society. Unable to let his friend die at the hands of the soul reapers, Ichigo, Orihime, Chad, Uryu and Yoruichi stop at nothing to save their beloved comrade.

The episodes themselves I give 5/5. This is some of the best that Naruto has to offer. They are constantly entertaining and action-packed. Don't worry about that.
The DVDs are, however, a disappointment. They have both the english dub, which is fairly good, and the japanese. However, the subtitles are merely the words of the dub. This means that to those of you who speak japanese and can understand the audio, this is going to grate. It also means that there are times when there is japanese audio but no accompanying subtitle, or vice-versa. The first season box set had subtitles that were translated from the Japanese, why couldn't this one? In addition, neither the opening nor closing songs have subtitles. I really enjoyed this film even though it didn't completely satistfy my Ghibli craving.
I found it slightly odd that all the characters seemed to live in an oriental world but they themselves looked western. Also, one of the things i love about Ghibli films is to watch how other cultures live, even down to how they eat and sleep. Unfortunately this film didn't really have any of this, they did eat and drink things but they seemed westernised. However, apart from all this i found the film entertaining, very funny in parts and it seemed to end too soon for me. I'm very much looking forward to watching the previous film involving some of these characters (Whisper of the Heart). >>More Details |

This little known Ghibli masterpiece can be overlooked for a few reasons, it IS alot slower than the most famous of ghiblis, and it is a bit less 'magic' but nevertheless, the story is wonderful, the pace is more peaceful but the beautiful animation, humour and action packed plot keep you hooked all the way through.
Set in the mediterranean, it animates the italian and french life with a loving wit (every vehicle is a fiat in Milan!). Miyazaki is in his prime writing and animating planes, which he loves, both the aesthetics and mechanics of the crafts obviously comes naturally to him. This anime series lives up to all expectations. Wether you're a fan of the books and/or the films or wether you're new to the series or even new to manga, Death Note is highly recomended. Beautifully made, superbly animated, true to the source material, this series is absolutely fantastic in every way but one; the American dubbing. The two main voices of Light and L do not suit the characters at all. L in particular doesn't sound right. But despite that the series is still amazing and it can always be watched in Japanes with subtitles. I would also point out to fans that if you watch the interview with the american actor who voiced L you will hear him compare Death Note to Spirited Away! Am I the only person that finds that a bit of a strange comparison?

I've been a massive fan of Digimon since, well.. forever, and just recently began exploring other Japanese anime. I was browsing the internet for Elfen Lied episodes and after stumbling upon the Japanese sub for the first episode of Naruto I went straight ahead and bought this.

Naruto series 5 part 1 sees the show take a darker and more serious approach than any of the other installments. I've only recently became a Naruto fan. I kind of ignored all the hype and sort of judged it as some sort of kids programme, or a watered down version of Dragonball.
How wrong was I? Series 1 was such a great series, with great character building and foundations. Series 2 just blew me away, as it was like they prepared you for the amazing things to unfold in future series. Then I come to this series, it literally left me gasping for air. Cheering at the screen like some sort of lunatic. This truly is an amazing series, it keeps getting better and better. I would consider myself a very big fan of this Anime, and I'm looking forward to all future instalments :) If you've seen the other series, you dont even need to read this review, just buy it! >>More Details |
