I am the kind of person who often goes through phases. One of these phases was to build a collection of the most popular anime films; the kind that film critics and fan-boys alike tend to rave endlessly about. Being immediately lost and bewidlered in the dizzying plot complications of Akira and Ghost in The Shell, I aimed to find an anime free from sci-fi convolution. Ninja Scroll seemed like a good alternative.

I came to expect visually dazzling animation as standard and Ninja Scroll did not dissapoint in this respect. Every severing blow of the katana, every full-fisted punch to the toothless face is choreographed in the most fluid, deft and brutal of motions. Needless to say that it is a violent film, the typical anime style ... Read More:

It's brilliant. One of the best creations of Studio Ghibli. In my list, it's right up there with "Spirited Away". I laughed out loud! And not many things can make me do that. At the moment, just the book "Bad Science".

"The Yamadas" is realistic, psychologically accurate, funny, human, and, obviously Japanese! Packed with bonzai trees and Basho's haikus. Oh...

Who said that animation must be elaborated? In "The Yamadas" it's schematic, but you know what, it is just enough for what it is trying to say. Perfect. Like tea ceremony - nothing excessive.

It is about family and perhaps is more accessible to those actually already burdened (or blessed?) with it.

I agree with pretty much all of the above reviews.

I would like to comment on the b-ray presentation, Picture quality is nigh on suberb unfortunately, I did notice several scenes littered throughout the movie where backgrounds suffered from posterization. Now, I'm not sure if these flaws were present in the original picture or not. Scenes like Aki's ship landing in the opening 3:20, in the council chambers at 21:07 etc. For me that cost the review 1 star.

Sound quality is faultless.

We brought this DVD at Christmas for our 7-year old Pokemon fanatic. His review was that "I loved it!". We thought that the dvd represented excellent value and just as important provided us with a nice hour or so of post-Christmas lunch peace and quiet.

I got this movie for my birthday, and I watched it about three times over. If you haven't seen the movie, then this is the story.
A young boy (who is actually a young Prof. Oak) ventures into the forest where Celebi lurks. He doesn't know this, but when a Scyther and Houndoom catches Celebi, the boy (named Sammy) saves the Celebi. It travels to the future and they meet Ash, Brock and Misty and Pikachu, but Celebi has already fled. They find the afraid Celebi in a small cave, but Sammy takes it and Celebi takes a great liking to Sammy and Ash. When Celebi grows weak, they bathe it in the Lake of Life.
A serious Team Rocket member possesses a ball called a 'Dark Ball' which catches the Pokemon and turns it evil. It catches Celebi, and the Rocket ... Read More:

DON'T BUY THIS!
It may say all collection!
But it doesn't contain the Anime tv series!

I love this packaging, the case is really good, neat and stylish!
It only contains the Samurai X movie and the 6 OVA episodes! It doesn't contain the anime television series.

You will need to watch or read the Manga to understand the characters for the Movie. But you don't need to know anything about Samurai X if you are to watch the OVA. Ova supposed to take place back when Kenshin was Battousai the Slayer.

I had watched this before by downloading it back in the days. The first time I watched them, I though they were extremely boring because they had long silent boring scenes!
Before buying this which ... Read More:

I had high hopes for this title, but i found myself becoming bored half way through. Despite this i carried on watching till the end, this was a mistake as it just got worse. I gave it two stars as the begining was quite good, and it was prob good for its time, but in all, not worth watching. Wouldn't recommend.

This exemplifies many of the qualities that good anime should possess. It is just so hard to imagine something like this being produced by any Western studio. Although fundamentally dissimilar, it shares that idiosyncratic approach to characterization, storyline and attention to detail shared by the best anime, such as most of the Ghibli productions, or Cowboy Bebop for example. The artwork and animation is excellent, and in fact all the fundamentals are of high quality. The bizarre storyline gives it much opportunity for humour, which is subtly exploited, and the characters are unusual but believable, even when they are unrealistic. In fact, even the minor characters have personalities, aided once again by superb attention to detail. Sadly, as far as I am concerned, ... Read More:

When i heard about this anime i was very interested, really my kind of thing. The show it's self is very good, i found it to have the right ballence of comedy and action, it's light hearted but does have its darker moments.another positive is that the dubbed vertion it's just as good as the subbed and is very well done i recomend watching either or both. In the end its a comedy/sci-fi/action anime thats fun, action packed and reletivly family freindly.
I gave this product 5 stars because of how great it is but its not a flawless product, having 7 disks in 1 box they were a little cramped and a little arkward to get out but it's never a major problem and so does not affect my score 5/5 EXELENT
