Walt Disney's hugely expensive adaptation of the classic tale of a family of castaways on a desert island maintains enough of a running thread not to seem too episodic even if it does drag a tad in places. There's not much sense of danger, despite the fact that the anaconda James MacArthur and Tommy Kirk wrestle with in one sequence turns out to be real - this is far too wholesome for that. The Robinsons are very much Disney's idea of the ideal All-American sixties family: the girls don't get to have any fun, unless you count girly stuff like dancing. Some of the animal scenes are a bit worrying 30 years on (such as the Great Danes attacking the tiger) and Kevin Corcoran is plain annoying, but for all that it remains ... Read More:

I think most people have seen the film and already know whether they like it or not when considering buying this DVD. So I'll talk specifically about this DVD.
The film has been restored beyond its original brilliance. If you pay close attention, particularly at a still-frame, you will realize that what Disney means by this is that they didn;t really restore it but just went ahead and rapaint every single frame digitally. SO certainly the feel has nothing of the warmth and life of the hand-coloured original. Luckily, the studio seems to have taken quite great care with this and so the recolouring is not too obtrusive, only becoming helplessly intrusive in certain scenes. For the most part, the brightness manages to enhance the sparkle ... Read More:

I haven't read the fourth book yet, so can't make any comment about how true the plot runs. However, what struck me most about this film, is how much the pupils of Hogworts seem to have grown up! They're moody, argumentative, and when Ron told Harry to 'p*** off' I had to rewind to make sure I'd heard him correctly! Its clearly aimed more at an older audience, as the first three films were much more child friendly - I'm not sure if I like this turn of direction, and I certainly wouldn't recommend this one for younger viewers! But that aside, its still a great film and builds upon the success of the previous Harry Potter films very nicely.

I bought this set just for the nostalgia. I forgot how joyous it can be. It has something that's lacking from current childrens television. It has optimism, a feeling that life is wonderfull. It encourages you to appreciate every little thing in the world. I don't want to sound too sappy but it really put a huge smile on my face when I watched it after so many years. It's lost none of it's charm. As a child some of the humour was lost on me. There's honestly some laugh out loud moments in this that adds to the appeal for adults like me seeking to relive a bit of thier childhood. If you don't want to get this for yourself, then get it for your kids. It's surely better than some of the brainwashing nonsense on tv today such as Teletubbies (a show surely ... Read More:

This has kept the same charming and beautifully presented stories faithfully. Jim Broadbent is perfect for Percy the Parkkeeper (despite the last thing i saw him in was Moulin Rouge - hilarious!). The stories are a little more involved than say Kipper or the Thomas stories, and are brilliant for children who are able to sit and listen to a story rather than just watch the pictures. And mommies and daddies will enjoy it too :)

Firstly, I can't believe that my life has come to this that I am writing a review for Fireman Sam! Sad - Yes, but I feel compelled on behalf of all the little people like my son who worship this cheeky yet slightly smug fire fighter, to warn potential purchasers of this dvd of the imminent disappointment they will experience when their kids watch this pile of squit!
I can't be alone in watching this and thinking 'Why?'. What were they thinking when they took a world wide successful format and sterilised it in to just another one of those drab computer animations that's instantly forgettable. Apparently the original creators S4C sold the rights to 'HIT Entertainment' - on the evidence of this effort, HIT decided to sub the job out to a cheap-as-chips animations ... Read More:

This DVD was good value for the price I paid.My son adores all things musical & singalong so I thought this would be great,he really enjoys the songs he knows. However, there are quite a few songs which are not so popular & so he rapidly looses interest. The good thing about this DVD is that you can pick which songs are played.I highly recommend this DVD for children aged 3 & above. My son is a little younger so may explain the lack of interest.Overall an entertaining DVD,but no replacement for Jim Jam & Sunny.

Shaun the Sheep - Saturday Night Shaun is one of those rare things that can be enjoyed by everyone. It makes me laugh out loud, and I've enjoyed watching it as a family with my nieces (aged 8 and 6) and my parents (in their 70s!). Wonderfully observed characters, good story-lines. We watched each short more than once, and everyone had a particular favourite, so it's good value because you want to go back to it again and again.
