I think most people have seen the film and already know whether they like it or not when considering buying this DVD. So I'll talk specifically about this DVD.
The film has been restored beyond its original brilliance. If you pay close attention, particularly at a still-frame, you will realize that what Disney means by this is that they didn;t really restore it but just went ahead and rapaint every single frame digitally. SO certainly the feel has nothing of the warmth and life of the hand-coloured original. Luckily, the studio seems to have taken quite great care with this and so the recolouring is not too obtrusive, only becoming helplessly intrusive in certain scenes. For the most part, the brightness manages to enhance ... Read More:

In my review for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace I wrote how the light and bright Phantom reflected the time in which it was released. 1999 was the dawn of the new Millennium and hope and freshness abounded during what was something of a short golden age for Western Society. If The Phantom Menace was a movie for its time, then 2005's dark and desperate Revenge of the Sith was also a movie of its time and for today. As the world stands on the edge of global despression and we continue with uncertain wars and the face the prospect of ever more sophisticated and outrageous terrorism many of us are feeling a sense of despair - Revenge of the Sith reflects that sense of despair and unease really quite profoundly. ... What is so exquisite about Sleeping Beauty is that it looks like a medieval tapestry coming to life. If you look closely at the details in the backgrounds you can see little twists in the leaves and curves in the tree bark which overall gives an ornate and opulent look still refreshing to this day. It was the most expensive film in it's day, it took over four years to make and Walt Disney stated to his artists and animators that they should take their time over it, make it beautiful and so it came as a shock when it didn't do all that well in the cinemas. It wasn't really able to communicate to an american youth who were smoking things they shouldn't and it seemed this highly romantic film was too idealistic in it's portrayal of young love, it felt as if ... My 2 yr old daughter had this for her Christmas eve pressi and the whole family sat down to watch it ... We felt very disappointed that only the 1st episode was Christmas themed and the other two were just nice episodes. Pity. They missed their chance to put an awesome DVD together. BUT, the Christmas episode is really good!

After the disappointment of Eps2 and 3, the Clone Wars goes a long way towards rekindling the excitement I've always associated with Star Wars. It returns to the non-stop action rollercoaster feel of the Luke Skywalker days, where the heroes gallop across the galaxy from one hot spot to the next, light-sabres blazing and blasters, err, blasting.
The style of animation takes some getting used to: it's nothing like a realistic or slick as Pixar, so you won't be seeing images like those in the feature-length Beowulf or Final Fantasy films. Instead it merges the Star Ward universe with some mange/anime styles to create a different, 2D experience. Where this works especially well is with the giant space cruisers (every bit as onimous as the models in Ep1, I feel), ... Read More:
