Well after being a columbo fan for years I finally said goodbye to adverts and got myself this box set, i cannot believe how cheap it is! the only downside is the DVD's themselves could be better protected, instead of flimsy cardboard sleeves, but hey you can buy those plastic sleeves from asda for about a fiver! so totally worth it!

One of my favourite films. This has incredible one liners, great slapstick, Bill Murray at his best and a really strange but completely great premise behind the whole thing.

As you can tell from the other people's reviews this movie is brilliant!! But what is not said (at least I don't think so! I didd'nt read all 100+ reviews!) is the picture quality! i'm using a Toshiba 47" 1080i LCD HDTV with a PlayStation3 with HDMI connection.
For a DVD it's got AMAZING detail! I'm surprised they managed to fit this 3 hour film with this quality onto a DVD!! I have a collection of around 500 DVDs & this must be in the top 5 of best picture quality in my selection!
Buy it! you won't regret it! (or wait for the Blu-ray)

I thought it's potrayal of the slums in Rio was excellent. You could really feel the pain and suffering through each character, from the begining to the end, false dawns and the main character somehow coming through it all to realise his dream. Some good perfomances in there. A really good watch.

I am sick and tired of all this green faced evil that pollutes so much of our films and TV. All the evil implications of having a green face are evident in this film, and the subtleties of the evil that the mask makes people do is overt and a little disturbing to say the least.
If anyone out there has studied the history and meaning of green faces they will understand this film's evil intentions and undertones. I cannot look too long at the cover of this DVD because of evil greeness and I bookmark and skip the bits when Jim 'can't act' Carrey has the mask on. It would be a good film if he and the green face elements were left out but as it stands this film is evil and it knows it.
Please do not let evil green faces into your life, look elsewhere for evil ... Read More:

The one that got the Best Picture Oscar...even if it was David O Selznick who picked it up as producer. It remains one of his most popular features, especially with women by all accounts, although Germaine Greer isn't a fan.
This was Hitch's first Hollywood film and is a brooding atmospheric film that takes a great novel (which was normally something Hitchcock would avoid like the plague, arguing that if a novel was too good, how could he possibly improve on it) and makes it into a film that is just as good, if not better.
Joan Fontaine makes a compelling "Second Mrs De.Winter" and whilst Laurence Oliver can't quite drop his "luvvy" acting style to make the role as Maxim De Winter equally as compelling, it's fair to say that he does make a good stab at the role. ... Read More:

Some might describe these movies as what we used to laugh at. I must confess that I still do, and I always will laugh at these wonderful old British films.
Margaret Rutherford is the definitive Miss Marple in my opinion. Later productions (for TV) are watchable and enjoyable, and may be more true to Agatha Christie. Here however, is a compelling strength of character and a thick seam of comedy running right through four flawless performances. Somehow, I can watch them again and again, and still laugh at things like a theatrical gesture, or a piece of dryly comic dialogue.
Praise to Plymouth's own Ron Goodwin for composing that distinctive theme that always brings a smile to my face, because I know what is in store.
