All you have to do is look at the reviews to see that this is a film that divides opinion. I have to disagree with the criticism this has received. For my part, I thought it was brilliant. I found it a captivating film with loads of quality twists and turns which had you wondering where this is going to end up. I don't think any of the acting was bad - liked jack especially and de Caprio put in a good performance. I think the average person will enjoy the film. The avid film buff will pick holes in it.

The one that got the Best Picture Oscar...even if it was David O Selznick who picked it up as producer. It remains one of his most popular features, especially with women by all accounts, although Germaine Greer isn't a fan.
This was Hitch's first Hollywood film and is a brooding atmospheric film that takes a great novel (which was normally something Hitchcock would avoid like the plague, arguing that if a novel was too good, how could he possibly improve on it) and makes it into a film that is just as good, if not better.
Joan Fontaine makes a compelling "Second Mrs De.Winter" and whilst Laurence Oliver can't quite drop his "luvvy" acting style to make the role as Maxim De Winter equally as compelling, it's fair to say that he does ... Read More:

This is cracking stuff. Plenty of stunts, good one liners, car chases, gunfights - in fact it's pretty much perfect action cinema. A guaranteed good evening's TV.

I first saw Edge of Darkness back in the Eighties as a teenager and was truly unnerved by its plausability and "reality".
I bought this item recently on a whim, as it was cheap, mainly to see if I still enjoyed it; I was concerned I would see it as a bit kitsch with wobbly sets !
I watched all six episodes almost back to back and was surprised by how gripping it still is and the amazing performance by the cast, particularly the brilliant Bob Peck. A great loss to the performing arts. There is a raft of very strong and believable cameos, particularly engaging is that of Pendleton and Jedburgh.
For those looking for a genuinely captivating, gritty British drama, made with very high production values and brilliant plot, Edge of Darkness delivers ... Read More:

When a 12 year old black girl is raped, beaten and almost murdered by two racist, redneck pigs, the little girl's father shoots both of them dead whilst they are being taken to trial.
He committed murder, he is as guilty as sin and nobody believes otherwise.
On the contrary in fact, the main question in this film is whether a black man should be allowed to take vengeance against whites.
Indeed, having based the defendant's entire case on the lie that he was 'temporarily insane,' the killer's attorney spells out this fact at the end of the film by asking the jury to imagine the little girl's attack and then asking "NOW IMAGINE SHE'S WHITE."
Throughout the film, the community is divided between the killer's supporters (mostly ... Read More:

The thing which is perhaps most horrifying about this movie is that the majority of the racist points made by the main character ring true. His intelligence, or more correctly the intelligence of the writing, means he can articulate well and promote his opinion convincingly. He sells his perspective and it is easy to understand how youngsters, or those who are perhaps lost in the world could be taken in.
I've read criticism from one reviewer (Soru Takahashi) that the transition from the old bitter, hate-driven Derek to the new one is under developed and the younger brother is all too willing to accept the new Derek without question. I agree with this. However, I don't believe it detracts from the credibility of the movie as much as Soru suggests. Nonetheless I would say ... Read More:

I expect that if your buying this you'll know what its about so I'll review on the quality of the image if I may. Some films, especially older ones have a poor quality transfer onto DVD, though not this one. Colours and detail are first class, offering up a bright colourful image devoid of any nasties (blocking etc. If you've seen DVDs of the orignial Star Wars the picture quality is on a par with them.

Collecting the six `official' movies featuring Bond number one, Sean Connery:
Dr No: James Bond's cinematic debut is an exotic mystery with a few classic moments along the way; Sean Connery's introduction and the shot of Ursula Andress walking out of the sea have passed into cinematic legend, whilst the film itself is an involving adventure, and a close adaptation of the original novel. Joseph Wiseman's Dr No is a fine villain, and Jack Lord's Felix Leiter was never bettered either.
From Russia With Love: Simply put, the finest of the Bond series; this movie provided the benchmark by which all future Bond films would be judged. A well-plotted cold war thriller, it features career-best performances from Connery and Pedro Armendariz, and a chilling turn by Robert Shaw ... Read More:

This film is APPALLING. I have to admit i am writing a review but i could not stomach watching the film right to the very end (i watched at least 3\4 of it), i gave it a chance but in the end i had to turn it off. It made me want to vomit. I second the oppinion by some commentators on here that if you are interested in watching a film on this topic watch THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, well cast, amazingly directed, beautifully shot, thoughtfull, researched, provoking, intelligent and touching - all the things this film was NOT!!! There really isn't alot more to comment on the horribly Hollywoodised cheesy badly acted Michael Collins except its embarrasingly embarrasingly bad... just don't bother.
