This is gripping, intelligent, rewarding drama. I must have been out of the country when this was on and I only found out about it through Amazon. Thanks reviewers! I really enjoyed it and the only reason for four and a half stars rather than five is that, like some other reviewers, I found the ending not as satisfying as the rest.
The acting is outstanding; John Simm as the lead reporter Cal McCaffrey and David Morrisey as politician Stephen Collins give faultless performances. Kelly MacDonald, Bill Nighy, James McAvoy, Polly Walker, Philip Glenister are all excellent. I found Dominic Foy (Marc Warren) the only mis note; though he provides some comic relief in the midst of the dramatic tension he seemed to be acting in a different ... Read More:

When a 12 year old black girl is raped, beaten and almost murdered by two racist, redneck pigs, the little girl's father shoots both of them dead whilst they are being taken to trial.
He committed murder, he is as guilty as sin and nobody believes otherwise.
On the contrary in fact, the main question in this film is whether a black man should be allowed to take vengeance against whites.
Indeed, having based the defendant's entire case on the lie that he was 'temporarily insane,' the killer's attorney spells out this fact at the end of the film by asking the jury to imagine the little girl's attack and then asking "NOW IMAGINE SHE'S WHITE."
Despite Home Alone 1 being an absolute classic, I've always liked this better than the first. There's more of a story, more lovely scenes and more traps. I recommend both Home Alone 1 and 2, and possibly number 3. Enjoy! These are real Christmas treats!

Was I watching a different film to everyone else? This tale of two brothers dealing with a gang of drug-dealing thugs has its chilling moments, and the scenery and filming is suitably moody, but as a whole it's just pretty aimless. There's endless use of the f-word, a few violent killings, but mainly it's just tedious.

This film is APPALLING. I have to admit i am writing a review but i could not stomach watching the film right to the very end (i watched at least 3\4 of it), i gave it a chance but in the end i had to turn it off. It made me want to vomit. I second the oppinion by some commentators on here that if you are interested in watching a film on this topic watch THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, well cast, amazingly directed, beautifully shot, thoughtfull, researched, provoking, intelligent and touching - all the things this film was NOT!!! There really isn't alot more to comment on the horribly Hollywoodised cheesy badly acted Michael Collins except its embarrasingly embarrasingly bad... just don't bother.

I found the first 55 minutes a touch slow at times, but from there on I was glued to the film, based on the true story of Frank Lucas a drug lord in New York.
Russell Crowe in particular is as usual in fine form, with a good performance from Denzel Washington too.
I've been looking forwards to watching this film since I first heard about it and for me it does not disappoint, I've read on another review stating that the story is preditable, but this is after all a true story, how else are you supposed to portray a true story?, putting things in that did not happen?, after all with a film like this there's really only 2 or 3 ways that this could ever turn out anyway!!
A good amount of action, but it's by no means full of it, Russell Crowe and Denzel ... Read More:

This a definate 5 star movie. One of the best films ever made. Dont listen to anyone who says the shark looks fake because it looks a damn site better than any recent CGI attempts(Deep Blue Sea). Its got that whole Speilberg feel about it, the little town of Amity might as well be the same town in ET or Poltergiest.
Essentially its 2 movies. The first act follows Chief Brody as he discovers there is a great white shark off the coast of his little town, picking off swimmers. The second act follows Brody, Hooper and Quint as they try to track and catch said shark. The scene on board the Orca where Quint and Hooper compare scars, which then leads to the revelation that Quint is a survivor of the USS Indianappolis, is one of the finest acting performances of all time.
I dont imagine there ... Read More:

I could barely conceal my delight when I found out Spiral was finally available on DVD.
It's a magnficent series. I was hooked from the first frame. Well acted, perfectly paced and packed full of very elegant action, it is hugely enjoyable.
I do agree with the reviewer who pointed out the series of coincidences that were the main plot drivers - but when a story is so compelling, the plot so well constructed and its characters so seductive, who cares? And the gorgeous Gregory Fitoussi and equally beautiful Caroline Proust are both terrific too.
Ok first of all I read the book a week ago and absolutly loved every page of it and I seriously recomend it. This is the reason why i baught the film but I was very unimpressed.
I can scarcely believe that anyone took this movie seriously, principally because of Nicolas Cage's (par-for-the-course) appalling acting.. It is quite pitiful to watch him attempt to present a noble mien as the angelic character, cocking his head on one side; standing on a skyscraper in his long slouch coat, looking with compassion at the teeming millions below; speaking... very... slowly... to indicate that he is troubled by the torment of emotions which we poor humans have to endure. Really he is HYSTERICAL.
What is even worse is his transformation into a 'human' - soulful, puppy-eyed looks at Meg Ryan accompanied by speech of a normal speed, just in case we missed the finer points of his change in characterisation. This movie is a total hoot 'n' a holler and deserves an award for its creaky clunky ... Read More:
