More than an epic tale of an early 20th Century oilman, this is a fascinating study of the greed for power and what it does to a man.
We meet Daniel Plainview down the bottom of a mine, exerting himself in mind-numbingly monotonous and backbreaking work, looking for gold or silver. He is a man willing to endure pain and humiliation to grasp more money, or more power. As he quickly moves from gold to black gold, he becomes more powerful, and his ruthlessness and underhandedness become more and more apparent, combined with the charisma required to persuade landowners to part with the mineral rights of their property. We learn about how he sees other people when he adopts a boy who he finds useful to put a kind face on his activities, and ... Read More:

I wish to buy the complete collection but am not sure which one to buy. Besides the difference in quality as ppl have pointed out, I also notice the cast to be different. The 2008 version casts Jeremy Brett as holmes, does it have Edward Hardwick/David Burke as Watson? Please comment and I'll place my order. Thank you - Ravi

This is the most explosive first episode of any series, totally shocking start and you are gripped after the first 5 minutes.
Jack is really at odds with the government in this one and once again he goes through absolute hell. The end is also just as shocking as the start.
To be honest i expected the series to slide a bit after the monumental quality of the first 4 but it didn't, this season is spectacular.

Once again we are treated to another extended episode of the X-Files. It's been around 6 years since we saw the finale disapointing episode.
That's not being harsh, it's just my own opinion of the last episode being largely cobbled together with clips of this fantastic show's entire run.
I was so nervous on my way to the cinema. I wanted so much to see that the show's creator, Chris Carter had got back on the right train and was heading down the right track after the over complicated show's mythology lost it's way during the last few seasons.
I wasn't disapointed. This film is awesome. If you have read the books, Ground Zero, Goblins, Whirlwind & the excellent Antibodies that really captured what was best about the series, then you'll get ... Read More:

This is a different kind of season to the first with some absolutely brilliant moments.
If you can overlook the fact (something you always have to with 24) that all big events happen on the hour then you will love the way each episode leaves you begging to watch more. Classic episodes all the way through.
Again there are twists and turns in this series too, if season 1 didn't make you trust noone then this one surely will.

I have all the New Tricks volumes and this keeps up the standard of the others. The acting is wonderful and the stories a mixture of light comedy and serious plot. So why oh why did the producers need to put in the backgound music - the single key piano playing, and synthesised violin trying to create pathos? It is just not necessary and in fact spoils the viewing when you become aware of it. Apart from that it is brilliant

THE BEST picture I have EVER seen on a series cover. What drama! It shows how serious the makers of 'Sopranos' were about the programme to put such thought into a picture. It even show Tony's beloved ducks in the distance.
